When she filmed a life hack video teaching her followers how to slice a glass bottle in half and give it a new lease of life as a vase using a flame, Abbie Quinnen had been just copying a social media craze. Little did she know how dangerous the stunt could be – until a fire bomb exploded in her face.
All I could see were burns all over my face
Abbie screamed in agony as her clothes and hair caught alight and was rushed to hospital, where they diagnosed third degree burns on her body.
Since then, the normally confident beauty has endured terrifying flashbacks and panic attacks that have made it too painful to look in a mirror.
Now, she has finally conquered her fears and taken to Instagram to share the results of a glamorous photoshoot.
The picture, showcasing her healing body in a black lacy lingerie set, is one taken for a modelling campaign to promote the underwear brand Pour Moi.
“GIRLS, Happy Black Fri-yay!” Abbie captioned the picture, which featured a huge bouquet of flowers beside her.
Her body looks flawless, with little sign of the fact that she is a burns survivor who came close to losing her life.
Admiring comments poured onto the page from some of Abbie’s 89,000 Instagram followers.
“You are gorgeous!” exclaimed joannagoody.
“Your confidence is glowing and it’s so amazing and inspiring to see.”
The bubbly dancer responded to the show of solidarity by writing: “Thanks so much Joanna – really appreciate it!”
Abbie has come a long way since last year’s life hack attempt led to her horrific injuries.
She had previously commented on her despair to The Sun, recalling: “I didn’t even recognise myself.”
“All I could see were burns all over my face.
“I didn’t know if they would heal, I just didn’t want to look at myself or let anyone else see me.”
She required three skin grafts in a bid to repair the damage to her body.
Now, however, she is back with a broad grin on her face, in stark contrast to the trauma of recent months.
Plus, she and former Strictly Come Dancing pro AJ Pritchard, who met after she was hired as a dancer for his Get On The Floor tour in 2019, are now as strong as ever in their relationship.
AJ has supported her throughout, in spite of Abbie, who had felt ashamed of her injuries, initially doing “everything she could” to “push him away”.
On Sunday, the pair stepped out together for the London premiere of the new Disney film Encanto, where they looked radiant and happy posing for glamorous red carpet pictures.
Her inspiring demeanour now is a far cry from the traumatised girl of the previous year, who could scarcely bear for her boyfriend to look at her.
