This week, the topic of birthdays has cropped a few times on This Morning, first with Holly Willoughby sharing her disappointment that her big 40th bash has been cancelled, and next with presenter Alison Hammond celebrating turning 46 on the show.

The TV star was sweetly surprised by Josie Gibson on the show, and Alison looked thrilled as co-host Dermot O’Leary and ITV pulling out all the stops to make her day special.

Josie, 36, popped up via video link from her home and read out a message she’d written for pal Alison while positioning herself in front of a balloon banner.

And Alison fought by the tears as Josie popped a party popper and read out a sweet message.

She said: “Alison, happy birthday my queen I’m sorry I can’t be there with you celebrating, but I’m having my own little pity party at home just for you.

“I’m so proud of everything you’ve done this year. You’ve given a voice to so many people and I’ve wrote you a little poem.”

Alison, who recently started her TV presenter duties alongside Dermot, told Josie she loves her, as she bent down to read her poem off a paper plate.

The poem went: “You are the salt to my pepper. You are the vinegar to my chips. You are the milk to my Weetabix. You are the Thelma to my Louise, you are the cherry on my cake, which is why Alison Hammond, I love you, and you’re my best mate.”

Alison replied by saying she was getting emotional, while Dermot applauded Josie and her birthday poem.

However, former X Factor presenter Dermot, 47, was also quick to spot a mistake with Josie’s birthday banner.

“Just bend down for us a second will you, what’ve you got at the back?” Dermot asked, and as Josie bent down she revealed a sign reading “Happy Birthray,” instead of ‘birthday’ on the wall.

The This Morning stars giggled about the faux-pas, and fans of the show were quick to pick up on the mistake.

Revealing her plans for the big day which have been put on hold, the presenter discussed her milestone birthday with co-star Phillip Schofield in a segment named ‘how to celebrate your birthday in lockdown.’

Holly confessed: “It's bittersweet as next week I'm celebrating my big 4-0 and tomorrow night would have been my big birthday party that I had to cancel!

“So it will look very different. But as long as I've got a cake and a glass in my hand I'll be fine.”

Phil was on hand to console Holly, and he quickly told her to “have a Wotsit,” while adding: “It'll be fine.”
