Conor McGregor, 33, left fans in tears after he penned a heartbreaking tribute to his beloved dog Hugo. The pooch sadly passed away on Wednesday, and the MMA fighter was understandably devastated.

He was with me all the way, my closest companion

While he didn’t detail how Hugo died, Conor took to Instagram to post a series of snaps he’d collected of Hugo over the years.

Alongside them, he shared a heartfelt caption.

The photos included one of him in his underwear sprawled alongside Hugo on the bed fast asleep.

Others saw the pooch joining him while he was working out and playing with his children, who Conor shares with wife Dee Devlin.

“So heart broken to say my dog Hugo has passed away,” the fighter began.

“He was with me all the way, my closest companion.

“From sleeping on a bed frame without a mattress to everything else that came after.”

He went on to thank him for “all the work put in alongside me” in order to make their family and family.

“All the love and cuddles we will miss forever and ever our Hugo! Gutted,” he added with a broken heart emoji.

“RIP the best boy Hugo McGregor.”

Following his post, fans rushed to the comments section to share their condolences with the sportsman, with one penning: “Sorry brother he will be missed.”

A second wrote: “Sorry to hear that mate, he was an absolute beaut!”

“RIP Hugo! Best wishes for you and your family!” a third commented.

A fourth sympathised: “No way, what a great dog Hugo was, he’ll be greatly missed.”

“So sorry to hear Conor he was great dog and will definitely be missed,” agreed a fifth.

While a sixth added: “Best friend a man can have. RIP.”

Someone else noted: “I’m sorry, Conor. It’s hard losing a loyal friend.”

Conor soon followed his upsetting post with another video of Hugo laying on their rattan veranda sofa.

“We got there in the end my boy,” he captioned it, as he could be heard giggling at Hugo falling asleep while Ed Sheeran played in the background.
