Davina McCall has taken back her savage response to the recent unveiling of the Princess Diana statue in Kensington Palace and deleted her controversial comment amid public backlash.
The TV presenter, 53, took down the contentious comment after she responded to a tweet from Piers Morgan about the statue which marks what would have been the Princess of Wales’ 60th birthday.
At the memorable event on Thursday, Prince Harry and Prince William reunited for the first time since their grandfather’s funeral in April to unveil the statue they have been working on together since 2017.
And although the royal brothers seemed happy with the end result, the former Good Morning Britain presenter, who recently slammed thugs who harassed Chris Whitty, was not so complimentary.
Piers, who has been consistently commenting on the royal feud between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with the royal family online, felt like the statue itself did not do her justice.
He tweeted: “Let’s be honest – it's not a great statue of Diana.”
And it appears he wasn’t the only person who thought so, as Davina, who recently shared a sexy snap of herself in a bikini, commented underneath in a now deleted post saying: “I really wanted to like it. But somehow … it doesn’t feel very Diana?
“Her joie de virvre … her radiance, her compassion. It feels stiff,” she added.
The Express had obtained the tweet before Davina made the decision to take down the post after the TV presenter was hit back with a wave of negativity.
Shortly after she shared her opinion online, many of her followers flooded her comments with their own thoughts on the recent artistic piece.
One royal fan wrote: “Well her sons, brothers & sister are happy with it. Her sons chose what she was wearing and how she was depicted. As they’re happen their it has s**t all to do with anyone else.”
Another joked: “Feels stiff? You do know it’s a statue, right?”
Although Davina backed away from the conversation, Piers is never one to backdown and defended his opinion online.
He added: “The statue’s the one thing Diana never was: dull.”
Beloved Glaswegian and ITV morning host Lorraine Kelly agreed with the Britian’s Got Talent judge.
She commented: “I don’t really like it. I’m sorry, I don’t really like the outfit but what I do like is the strength, she looks very strong.”
“I just don’t think it does her justice. I know there was good intentions [behind it].”
