Helen Skelton, 39, scored her first nines of the Strictly series on Saturday October 22 and securely landed a spot in week six of the competition. However, comedian Jayde Adams, 37, and her professional partner Karen Hauer, 40, were not as lucky and the presenter mourned the elimination of her “girls”.

Just after the Strictly results were announced on Sunday, Helen and her dance partner Gorka Marquez, 32, appeared on her Instagram stories.

The two breathed a sigh of bittersweet relief on the Strictly dancefloor, with Helen visibly teary-eyed.

Her words were filled with emotion as she said: “I’m really happy that we’re through and thank you so much for being kind to us.

“But I’m crying because Jayde and Karen are our girls. They’re our fam. I’m very sad.”

Turning to a more positive note, the TV presenter told Gorka “we have to be really good now”.

The professional dancer agreed, adding in many thank you’s to the fans who voted them into week six of the competition.

Next, Helen posted a simple photo of her, Jayde, Karen and Gorka having coffee together, captioned: “Grateful”.

The former Blue Peter star also took to Twitter to share “love and respect” to her friends and comedian Adam Hills.

She wrote: “Twitter love & respect for Adam Hills for representing his country in the Rugby League World Cup today (proud friend)

“And my Jayde Adams & Karen Hauer who have made me laugh, inspired & supported me for the last six weeks.

“What a joyous world full of fab peeps we are in xx.”

The two celebrity contestants have grown closer over filming the show, with Jayde sharing a candid photo of them out for dinner last week.

She sweetly captioned the Instagram post: “Two strong confident independent women, eating roast dinners after a big weekend.”

Helen quickly responded to the post with heart-eyed emojis.

In the latest episode of Strictly Come Dancing, Helen and Gorka received their highest score of the series so far, with a sensational 35 points.

In honour of the BBC’s 100th anniversary celebrations, the duo performed a Charleston to the theme tune of Blue Peter.

The show is the world’s longest-running children’s TV show and catapulted Helen to stardom as she presented it for seven years.

While Helen and Gorka tied for top of leaderboard with Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystał, their “fam”, Jayde and Karen, didn’t do as well.

The duo scored 28, placing them in the bottom four and on Sunday, they entered the dance-off against Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu.

All four judges voted to save Molly and Carlos, meaning Jayde and Karen were eliminated.

In her closing moments on the show, Jayde shared a tearful goodbye saying: “This has been the best thing I’ve ever done in my entire life and I will carry it to my grave.”

Strictly Comes Dancing continues on Saturday at 6:50 on BBC One.
