Janette Manrara, 37, recently announced she had quit Strictly Come Dancing but will now present the BBC spin-off show It Takes Two, replacing Zoe Ball. BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker, 44, has now said he is a little bit crushed by the Miami-born dancer’s exit.
The BBC broadcaster was the eighth celebrity contestant confirmed for the show yesterday.
He will join AJ Adudu, John Whaite, Katie McGlynn, Rhys Stephenson, Robert Webb, Sara Davies and Tom Fletcher as this year’s show contestants.
In response to the announcement, Dan – who stands at 6ft 6in – took to Instagram and shared a cheeky photo.
In view of his 197,000 followers, he uploaded a screenshot from The Hobbit featuring Elijah Wood and Sir Ian McKellen as Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf, as he cheekily mocked their height difference.
Dan began: “Thank you for all your lovely messages about #Strictly.
“I’m looking forward to getting cracking and having a good laugh. It’s disappointing that @jmanrara has moved on to #ItTakesTwo because I feel we would have made a perfectly-sized couple @bbcstrictly.”
The BBC host also shared the same message on Twitter which caught Janette’s attention.
The professional dancer admitted she “missed out” on a perfect partnership with the former Football Focus host.

Janette retweeted Dan’s post on the micro-blogging site, in view of her own 179,000 followers.
She penned: “Oh Dan! I just missed out! Whomever it is will be one very lucky dancer!
“But I cannot wait to hear you say my last name when you come to sit down on the couch with me! #ItTakesTwo #Manrarararararararara.”(sic)
Viewers also reacted as they shared their thoughts on not being able to see Janette and Dan paired together, despite it having been highly unlikely due to their height.

“Humour wise that would have been a perfect match. Now I think maybe Oti [Mabuse],” another noted.
A third added: “Can’t wait. So happy to see you on Strictly.”
“I’ll be voting for you Dan,” another social media user added.
In a recent interview, Dan revealed that he had been approached by BBC bosses a “few times” to take part in the dance competition.
While the dad-of-three explained that while he enjoys watching Strictly, he is slightly apprehensive about showing the world his dance moves.
Dan told Express.co.uk: “I’ve been asked [to do Strictly] a few times. I see Strictly as a spectator sport.
“Also, I’m 6ft 6in and I’ve got an incredibly huge wingspan. They’d have to get a much bigger studio in there. But I do enjoy it and we like watching it as a family.”
He added: “My wife loves it. I’ve taken her to the Strictly shows a few times.”
