The latest: Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Vanessa Paradis, 49, was seen shopping for groceries in Studio City, California on Wednesday, amid the 58-year-old actor’s ongoing libel trial in Virginia against his ex-wife Amber Heard, 35

The France-born Paradis had previously shown her support for Depp during his libel trial against The U.K. Sun – for calling him a ‘wife beater’ – that was dismissed in November of 2020.

In July of 2020, Paradis issued a statement to the U.K. court that the behavior she saw from the actor, who she was wed to from 1998 thru 2012, did not square with the claims made by Heard, 35.

‘I have known Johnny for more than 25 years,’ Paradis said. ‘We’ve been partners for 14 years and we raised our two children together. Through all these years I’ve known Johnny to be a kind, attentive, generous and non-violent person and father.

‘On movie sets the actors, directors and entire crews adore him because he is humble and respectful to everyone, as well as being one of the best actors we’ve seen.’

She continued: ‘I am aware of the allegations which Amber Heard has publicly accused Johnny of for more than four years now. This is nothing like the true Johnny I have known, and from my personal experience of many years, I can say he was never violent or abusive to me.’

Paradis said that the ‘outrageous statements’ made by Heard had been ‘really distressing,’ and had negatively impacted Depp’s career ‘because unfortunately people have gone on believing these false facts.

‘This is so upsetting as he has helped so many persons in his personal and professional life, with kindness and generosity.’

The trial began this week in Fairfax, Virginia with Depp suing Heard over a 2018 article she penned for the The Washington Post in which the Aquaman actress called herself a ‘public figure representing domestic abuse.’

Attorneys for the actress had sought to have the trial relocated to California, where both Depp and Heard live, but a judge ruled that the case was properly located in Virginia, where the newspaper’s online servers are based out of.

Notable names slated to testify in the case – which is expected to go on for more than a month – include Elon Musk, James Franco and Paul Bettany.

On Tuesday, Depp’s friend and neighbor Isaac Baruch gave testimony in the case

On Tuesday, Depp’s friend and neighbor Isaac Baruch gave testimony that Heard had informed him in May of 2016 that Depp had struck her and launched a phone in her direction, but showed no physical marks.

‘She’s got her face out like this to show me, and I’m looking, and I inspect her face,’ Baruch said. ‘And I don’t see anything … I don’t see a cut, a bruise, swelling, redness.’

Baruch, who has been friends with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor for more than 40 years, said that he never observed any violent actions from the actor, and that Depp’s ‘family has been completely wrecked by all of this stuff, and it’s not fair.’

Baruch said Heard needs to ‘take responsibility and move on’ in her life, and that ‘it’s not right, what she did.’
