Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he locks the sweet cupboard at home to stop the kids from eating junk in a video for ad campaign Ban the Bland.

Footballer Rio Ferdinand has also revealed that his children and wife Kate call him “the washing machine” because of the sound he makes when he’s chewing food.

He said: “Kate, her pet hate is loud eating, and for some reason [at home] they call me 'the washing machine' as I eat so loud.”

He continued: “My boys get the hump and will move seats – they actually put music on now when they’re eating- because they think I eat so loud.”

The sport star also claimed that Kate’s worst habit is eating a bit of every snack on the table without finishing any of them.

Rio went on to say that he locks the cupboards up to stop the boys from snacking in between meals.

He explained: “My boys love sweets, so if there’s sweets about… I actually put a lock on the cupboard door.”

He continued: “I’d come down at a certain time and wrappers would be everywhere.”

Rio Ferdinand married former TOWIE star Kate in 2019, and they welcomed their baby son Cree together in December last year.

The former Manchester United footballer is also father to three children; 14-year-old Lorenz, 12-year-old Tate and Tia, 10- who he shared with late wife Rebecca Ellison.

Kate has previously spoken out about her struggles after having an emergency C-section, saying she “cried every single day for five weeks”.

She said: “You expect to be doing everything you possibly can for your baby and when you can’t… It was something I really struggled with.”

A source told new!: “Rio has been amazing to Kate. He told her to be honest and open up because he knew how supported she’d be by women who’d been through the same. Rio had to be vulnerable when he opened up about his grief after losing Rebecca and it helped him to know other people had experienced similar things.”

Beautiful blonde Kate shared a note on Instagram from her step-children, who wrote: “Pls stop crying I love u.”

She wrote on Instagram: “To new mums, mums, step-mums… and anyone struggling in lockdown, I feel you!”

The source continued: “Kate is lucky to have Rio and the kids as they are so tight-knit and pull together when they need to. Kate loves being a mum and adores her family but she’s thankful she can open up about the difficulties and connect with others.”
