Love Island’s Greg O’Shea says he knows ‘real truth about split from Amber Gill’

Love Island fans were left devastated when winners Greg O'Shea and Amber Gill split just 39 days after they left the villa.

The pair's shock split was revealed on the day Amber was due to fly to be with Greg in Ireland and appear on RTE One’s The Late Late Show alongside him and their fellow islander, Maura Higgins.

On the show, Greg, 24, cited the distance between them – with Amber living in Newcastle and him in Ireland – and their busy careers as the reason for their split.

He also claimed that the break-up was a mutual decision and hinted that in the future they could possibly make it work.

However, Amber, 22, has since claimed on Loose Women that rugby player Greg dumped her by text.

Speaking on Ryan Tubridy's Radio One show at the National Ploughing Championships in Ireland on Tuesday, Greg claimed he knew the “real truth” about the split and has a clear conscience.

He said: "Amber's doing great stuff over in the UK. I can be happy with myself that I know the truth and I know what’s happened.

"I’m not going to badmouth [Amber], she’s got great stuff going on, and I can be happy with myself, my friends, and my family knowing what actually happened."

The Limerick lad added: "She can say whatever she wants, but I wish her the absolute best – she's a great woman."

Amber – who has announced a fashion deal with Miss Pap – has said she is "disappointed" in Greg for ending their relationship as she wanted to make it work.

Appearing on Loose Women days after their split, Amber said: “Obviously I'm really disappointed, I wasn't expecting it at all.

"I was due just that weekend just gone to fly out to Dublin and spend the weekend with him and we were going on a TV show together and on that day I had to cancel because it wasn't working out.

"But yeah, I just think, you know the career and the distance was always a factor, it was always something that we knew about so I don't know what changed. I wanted to make it work but it is what it is really."

When asked if she was disappointed in the situation or Greg himself, Amber responded: "A little bit of both.

"I am disappointed that it's over but, you know, I'm booked and I'm busy. I'll be fine, onwards and upwards from here."

Discussing whether the split was mutual, Amber continued: "From my point of view I still wanted to make to work and there was a call a few days prior just chatting, not specifically to do with that but definitely on that day it was a text.

Amber has since said that she has sworn off men for the foreseeable future following her split from Greg and being left heartbroken by Michael Griffiths in Love Island after he failed to remain faithful to her in Casa Amor.

When asked if she's ready to date again, Amber exclusively told OK! online : “No way, I dealt with two boys over the summer, I don’t need to deal with any more right now.

“That’s enough to last me for the year. I am definitely off men for the minute.

“I’m happy by myself – definitely. I’m not looking for anything. I don’t have the time any more to date to be honest. I’m happy where I am.”

However, it was reported that Amber and actor Jamie Lomas swapped numbers after chatting at the TV Choice Awards.
