Meghan Trainor recalls concerning time baby son didnt wake up for a week after birth

Meghan Trainor has recalled the terrifying time that her baby son Riley "didn't wake up for a week" following his birth, which she described as "traumatic".

The 28 year old All About That Bass hitmaker welcomed her son with husband Daryl Sabara, 30, in February 2021, via C-section. She has now spoken about her frustrations with the responses from nurses when her son slept almost-constantly in his first week of life.

Speaking to People, she said: "They were like, 'Sometimes it happens,' and then some nurses were like, 'Well, it's because you're on antidepressants.' And I'm like, 'Yeah, but I've been told by others that it's not that.'

"It was just really frustrating not having an answer. Not having answers for why my kid didn't wake up for a week was very frustrating."

Meghan previously opened up about the birth of Riley, who was in the breech position before he was born, revealing that he had "breathing issues" and that she was left worrying when he didn't cry immediately after his birth.

"It was one of those horror stories where he didn't cry. He didn't make noise when he came out. I was like, 'Why isn't he crying?'" she said on the Today Show.

She told how the tiny tot was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit, and that she was only able to see him "for a second" before he was whisked there.

However, she then said: "We're so lucky we got to bring him home after five days."

After announcing that she was expecting Riley in October of 2020, Meghan went on to reveal the gender in an interview on The Kelly Clarkson show later that month.

Meghan was in the studio for the announcement, while her Spy Kids and Friends actor husband Daryl dialled in via video link.

Kelly asked Meghan if she knew if she was having a boy or a girl, to which the Voice UK coach responded: "We've never told anyone … I saved it it for you, Kelly, I love you."

Daryl then announced that the couple were expecting a baby boy, although Meghan revealed that she'd thought she was having a girl at first.

She said: "I did all those look [at old wives' tales] online – how fast is the heartbeat? Where do your hips go? And I was like "Oh, it must be this" and I was wrong."

Meghan often posts adorable snaps and videos of her family life with Daryl and Riley, and on Riley's first birthday, she posted a gushing tribute to her son.

Sharing a cute snap of her little one covered in cake, Meghan wrote: "Happy birthday Riley! You are my everything! I love you to the moon and back. Best year of my life."
