Prince William gutted for England as they lose against France in World Cup

The Prince of Wales has shared how "gutted" he is for the England team after they lost against France in the World Cup quarter finals.

The Three Lions faced France on 10 December evenings, where they were defeated 2-1 after Harry Kane missed a crucial late penalty.

Taking to Twitter, Prince William, 40, addressed manager Gareth Southgate and captain Kane alongside the whole team as he wrote: "Gareth, Harry and the whole @England squad and staff, gutted for all of you.

"You put so much into this tournament and we are all so proud of you. Heads held high and on to the next one! W."

Prince William’s words of encouragement come after the senior Royal was unable to jet across the globe to attend the World Cup due to being “too busy”.

As an avid football fan and President of the Football Association, the dad-of-three had been expected to attend the tournament, but his schedule’s too full.

Some of the engagements he’s had to fulfil since the World Cup began on 20th November include travelling to the US alongside wife Kate, as well as attending a lavish state banquet at Buckingham Palace to mark the visit of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Duke of Cambridge isn’t the only avid football fan in his family as daughter Princess Charlotte, seven, is also a keen footballer.

Speaking during the Women’s Euros over the summer, doting dad William labelled his only daughter as a “budding star”.

During a trip to see the Lionesses training, he told the team: “Charlotte wants me to tell you she's really good in goal,” the doting dad said.

“A budding star for the future!” William further quipped.

The Duke added: “She said, ‘Please can you tell them that’, and I said ‘Okay I'll tell them’.”

Prince George is also said to be a fan of the sport, and reportedly “begged” his father to take him to the Euros in 2021.

“William would never have normally taken him to the football because it was an official outing in his role as president of the FA, but George absolutely begged to be allowed to come along,” royal expert Duncan Larcombe told us at the time.

“Kate and William are at pains to never expose the children unnecessarily to the cameras but he twisted their arm eventually.”
