Simon Pegg addresses 'weird' response to his six-pack

After Simon Pegg broke the internet with his fresh abs, the Shaun Of The Dead star has addressed the images – citing the response as ‘weird’.

The actor’s personal trainer Nick Lower shared a shirtless picture of Simon in March, in which he showed off a six pack (eight pack, maybe even a 10 pack if we look closely) and defined arms as he laughed away, wearing a baseball cap and tracksuit bottoms.

He wrote: ‘#SimonPegg 6 month body transformation for #InheritanceMovie The brief for this role was lean, VERY lean. It required a specific body shape & look.’

It was safe to say we were very much shaken and stirred by this so-called ‘eight-pack Peggles’.

And in turn Simon was shocked by our response.

‘The response from that picture was so weird,’ the 49-year-old actor told GQ Hype this week.

‘Some people said, “You look ill,” which is what my wife thought. Others were saying, “Well done.” And the thing is, it wasn’t meant to be an aspirational thing.

‘It was a snapshot that my trainer took and I really didn’t expect the furore that followed. All I can think of is that people still think of me as that schlubby guy from Shaun Of The Dead.’

He added he’s totally committed to the workout process as Simon detailed the hard work he put into achieving the amazingly impressive set of abs he’s rocking – including quitting drinking.

He added: ‘So Nick and I developed this plan to give me that body shape and it was a lot of work. I trained for three months with only one day off a week. Obviously nutrition was a big part of that, too. Nick always says you can’t outrun a bad diet and that is completely true. No matter how many sit-ups you do, you’ll never get a six-pack if you don’t manage your macro-nutrients properly.’

Earlier this year Nick explained that Simon had dropped from 78kg to 69kg in his body weight (losing 19 pounds) and went down to just 8% body fat from 12%, through a mix of strength, circuits and core training and a ‘sound nutrition plan that worked for him and his goals’.

Nick added: ‘6 months of hard work has paid off and I tip my hat to you sir..’

Simon himself quote-tweeted Nick’s post and added: ‘Also occasional mild grumpiness…’

It seems he’s still serving up those fitness vibes, as he poses with a heavy barbell on the front cover of the magazine.

He adds a touch of sophistication though, as he wears suspenders and a smart trousers/button up combination. And we’re picking up with the man is putting down.

Always got the balance, that Simon.
