Thanks to Midnights, we know that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn are enjoying their life together in a lavender haze. Now, thanks to an ~unnamed source~ close to the super-private couple, we also know how they’re doing in less lyrical terms (specifically that they “are doing great” and their “relationship is super strong” at the moment).
^^^ This is all very good news and we are happy they’re happy. The source also shared a little insight into what it is that makes Taylor and Joe’s relationship so rock solid.
“Taylor loves the fact that Joe unconditionally supports her,” the insider explained to Entertainment Tonight. “They are there for each other through everything and feel so proud of each other.”
Even though Taylor and Joe are “there for each other through everything,” they’re also both still very comfortable being independent, which is probably a big factor in how they’ve maintained their lavender haze of a love bubble for more than six years now.
“They appreciate their time together, but also like that they can both do their own things, both in their professional careers or personal lives,” the source added.
During the onslaught of Midnights buzz-building, Taylor revealed that the new album’s first track, “Lavender Haze,” is 100% about her and Joe’s ‘ship (and their decision to keep it as private as it’s possible for two very famous humans to do). Taylor explained that she heard the phrase “lavender haze” (a 1950s phrase that describes being in love) in an episode Mad Men and connected with it.
“If you were in the lavender haze that meant you were in that all-encompassing love glow. I thought that was really beautiful,” she explained in a video on Instagram. “I guess, theoretically, when you’re in the lavender haze you’ll do anything to stay there and not let people bring you down off of that cloud. I think a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just ‘public figures,’ because we live in the era of social media, and if the world finds out that you’re in love with somebody they’re going to weigh in on it. Like my relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff and we just ignore it. This song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.”
