Tegan and Sara have announced their ninth album, Hey, I’m Just Like You, will drop on September 20.
The album will feature re-recorded versions of songs that the indie pop duo initially wrote in high school.
Hey, I’m Just Like You follows Tegan and Sara’s 2016 record Love You to Death.
“While working on our memoir, we discovered lost cassette tapes that had been unheard for over 20 years,” Tegan Quin said in a press release.
“They contained dozens of our first songs, written between the ages of 15 and 17,” she continued. “We immediately recognized the songs as an essential part of our high school story.”
“With only minor tweaks to lyrics and structure, we tried to remain true to the original essence of each song,” added Sara Quin.
The team behind Hey, I’m Just Like You consists entirely of women, including Alex Hope (producer), Rachael Findlen (engineer), Beatriz Artola (mixing), Emily Lazar (mastering), Annie Kennedy (assistant engineer), Carla Azar (drums), and Catherine Hiltz (bass).
