The Chase newcomer Darragh Ennis has opened up about the legion of new female admirers he has attracted since joining the ITV quiz show last year.

Speaking at the TRIC Awards, held in partnership with OK!, in London on Wednesday afternoon, the 47 year old expressed his amusement at the marriage proposals he had been receiving online.

He revealed that there was one person in particular who isn't a fan of his newfound fame, exclusively telling OK!: '"My wife finds it a bit weird!"

Darragh went on to joke that if he saw any of the people sending him marriage proposals in real life, they would "panic".

Darragh joined Mark Labbett, Anne Hegarty, Shaun Wallace, Jenny Ryan and Paul Sinha last year on The Chase in their quest to outsmart the general public.

And with nearly a year on the show under his belt, he admitted to OK! that it was the "best job in the world".

"It's such a good job. Everybody, not just the Chasers, but behind the cameras, we all get along," he gushed.

Darragh, nicknamed "The Menace" on the show, is a seasoned academic and a postdoctoral researcher at Oxford University, where he studies the brains of insects, having previously worked at Concordia University in Montreal.

He is the first chaser to have previously been a contestant, having competed against Paul Sinha in 2017.

Earlier this month, 20-year-old contestant Eden make history by winning an incredible £75,000 on the show after beating Chaser Darragh's six-month winning streak.

Eden was the last contestant remaining in his team after he made it to the final.

He had already made £3,000 in his cash builder round before choosing to aim high and go for the offer of £75,000.
