Footpatrol, Mid City Signs and Vault by Vans Pay Homage to LA's Sign Painting With New Footwear Capsule

Collaborative efforts from Footpatrol and Vault by Vans first kicked off back in 2018 when the two parties rolled out a trio of black and white footwear models that were all engineered with hairy suede and drill canvas uppers. Three years later, the two companies are reigniting its creative energy alongside Javier Matias — owner and founder of ‘Mid City Signs’ — to generate another three-pronged sneaker capsule that’s directly inspired by Los Angeles’ omnipresent art form of sign painting. Matias has been a go-to artist for signage around the SoCal community as he’s taken on projects for shops such as FTP and Midnight studios, and has even taken his work to notable festivals such as Coachella and Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw.

For this latest collection, three silhouettes take a seat at the table including the Era LX, Old Skool LX and what appears to be the modern Sid silhouette. The Era‘s are the most playful as its upper halves are presented with yellow, red, green and blue checkerboard backgrounds that come decorated with multi-colored Footpatrol lettering sprawled across its entirety. The Old Skools stoop down to a more understated level as its top layer color-blocks between a white jazz stripe and a muted sky blue suede. Down below, the midsoles are designed with black backgrounds and multi-colored speckles. Like the Old Skools, the last pair of the assemblage also features black midsoles with vibrant speckled wallpapers, but deviates with a simple white upper.

Parties who fancy these collaborative kicks can find them launching online and in-stores on May 29, 2021.
