Kiwi pizza labelled ‘unholy abomination’ – but some people can’t wait to try it

Once again, fruit on pizza is dividing the internet.

The age old pineapple argument is known to all but a new kiwi pizza – which a reddit user found at a Danish pizzeria – has taken the debate to a whole new level.

Described as an “unholy abomination”, the large thin crust pizza has the traditional tomato sauce and cheese base with several slices of kiwi spread out on the top.

The idea of kiwi on pizza has divided many reddit users, with 429 comments all expressing varied opinions on the culinary invention.

One angry user said: “I find it hard to believe there's freaks out there who would even do this. What a f****** sick world we live in.”

Another added: "This makes me unreasonably angry. I can accept pineapple. I'm not a fan but I can understand the appeal. What even is this s***?!"

A third wrote: "This is wrong on soooooo many levels, I’ve lost count".

But there were larger concerns for some people, and many were worried this new take on the Italian staple would open the floodgates for more peculiar pizza creations.

They fearfully wrote: “Next they'll want to put papaya on their pizza. They'll call it papayazzi.”

The idea of Kiwi on pizza didn't disgust everyone though. Some users were willing to try the unusual combination and argued with naysayers in the comments.

One adventurous user said: “I dunno. I mean, this particular pizza looks bad, but I kinda want to try the combo”.

Another agreed with the sentiment and replied: "Yeah I’m curious if it would taste as how I am imagining it, which isn’t too terrible, I suppose".

Many outlined other examples of popular dishes that mix fruit with savoury items such as cheese and grapes.

One wrote: "I could almost taste the combined flavors of the cheese and kiwi, its saltiness and its sweetness and tartness respectively. Like it could be a good flavour combination much like that of cheese and grapes or berries".

Another person defended the combination and revealed their unique use of the fruit in their cooking, saying, “Kiwi has an extremely mild flavour. I use it to tenderise meat due to a low taste profile and high acidity.”

One user wasn’t surprised at all by kiwi on pizza, noting that a pizzeria in his hometown regularly uses “apples and oranges” as a topping.

Many commenters also said that Denmark is not the only Scandanavian country which has a reputation for unusual pizza toppings.

Several Reddit users wrote about the infamous Swedish banana curry pizza which is often garnished with peanuts.

One user said, “All pizza places in Sweden have something along the lines of sauce, cheese, curry, chicken, banana, and peanuts. It's a goddamn travesty”.
