Watch Klättermusen Head to the Mountains For ‘Pioneer’s Route’ Short-Film

Klättermusen’s latest short-film Pioneer’s Route sees former Olympic alpine skier Gudmund Söderin return to the mountains he first visited in 1976, clad in the Swedish brand’s finest outerwear.

Söderin is joined by his daughter, climber and instructor Nanna, as well as former pro snowboarder Hampus Mosesson and freeskier Joakim Johansson, to explore how the route now differs between the generations and how central the gear and preparation has become since his first expedition.

Having first visited in 1976 while training for an expedition to Alaska, the expedition set the tone for everything that came afterwards for Söderin. The evolution of the gear involved has resulted in the ability to move lighter and faster, regardless of whether it’s Klättermusen’s shell jackets, or the splitboard revolution that has shaped the snowboard industry.

While the glacier has become smaller and the weather changes more frequently, those who seek out the stories that the mountains have to tell always share one key characteristic: an innate drive for discovery and the exploration of one’s limits, seeking the reward that lies beyond them. “The mountain is in charge, we’re just visitors,” Söderin says.

You can watch the short-film above and here, which is a part of the official selection for Kendal Mountain Festival 2021, and visit the Klättermusen webstore for a closer look at the gear worn.
