Charlize Theron ditches her trademark blonde hair for a daring black mullet

When you think of a famous blonde actress, many will conjure up an image of Charlize Theron. The Mad Max star is synonymous with honey-blonde hair and a paired-back makeup look. Now, in a big switch up from her usual style, Charlize is trying out a daring new look.

The 46 year old showed off a mullet-like crop in a freshly-dyed black shade at her own charity event, the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project 2022 Summer Block Party. To match her darker tresses, it also looks like the star has also given her eyebrows a bit of a transformation with the help of a semi-permanent tint. The overall look is very dramatic.

Charlize has also opted to have short layers cut into her hair to give the crop a mullet, or an “octopus”, effect. This kind of cut features shorter top layers of hair while the sides and back are left long. The retro style is a favourite of Miley Cyrus and Billie Eilish – who, actually, Charlize does look a bit like now that she has black hair.

We wonder if this hair is for a new movie role. It wouldn’t be a stretch considering Charlize has previously changed her appearance for big roles, memorably for Fast & Furious 9 when she got a “mushroom” haircut.

Mullets seem to be on the menu for celebs this year, with stars of all ages ditching their long lengths for the classic 80s cut. Paloma Faith, for example, took to the Concert for Ukraine stage the other month with a bright red mullet – and it’s unlike anything we’ve seen her wear before.

Since the hair was so shiny and so red, we wondered if the singer actually chopped her own hair for this look, or if she switched up her style with the help of a wig. Either way, the end result was very rock ‘n’ roll chic.

Before Paloma got her mullet, Camila Cabello debuted her own take on the trend. The Havana singer served up serious 80s glam-rock vibes, with long, wet-look waves at the back and a short, shaggy fringe.

Is it just us or is the mullet looking almost cool?
