Chanelle Hayes says that she has achieved her "dream body" after slimming down following gastric sleeve surgery to treat her food addiction.

The reality star who has struggled with her weight since she shot to fame on Big Brother, finally feels that she has taken back control of her body after opting for the drastic procedure.

Following the surgery, 5"4 Chanelle has lost around eight stone and says that she has never felt better.

Gastric sleeve surgery is where doctors remove up to 80% of the stomach, leaving patients unable to eat as much food as before which leads to weight loss.

However, the 33-year-old was keen to stress that it’s not about the number that she saw on the scales and that she had the procedure for her health, not appearance.

Opening up on Instagram, she shared: "So I hit a personal goal recently and now weigh back inside the 9 stones! But not everything is about what it says on the scales…

"In the first pic on the left I didn’t even know my weight because I didn’t want to… Although I know it was around 17 stone as I had surgery not too long from that pic (I took that picture to use as inspiration to get healthy again).

"What I do know is that I couldn’t walk up the stairs that day and opted for the escalator on that trip. I also had to put talc under my boobs, in between my thighs and under my upper arms to stop the rashes I would get from chafing.”

Chanelle wrote that her weight as it was made her nervous to look in the mirror and left her crying in shop changing rooms.

"I avoided every mirror or reflection and generally did not care about or like myself very much. On the right pic, I still get nervous around my reflection in case I see the person I was before who was so desperately unhappy and I still get under boob chafes, but I feel so proud to post myself looking and feeling confident and healthy again,” she said, adding:

"My weight and addiction to food has held me back for so many years I have to pinch myself when I remember I am healthy again and can fit into normal sized clothes without a crying episode in the changing rooms."

Responding to a question from a follower asking whether the procedure was painful, Chanelle explained she’d had keyhole surgery where a camera is inserted through a smaller incision.

The mum of two has said previously that she considers the surgery to have been lifesaving.

“I would have continued eating myself into an early grave had I not tried surgery. It isn't for everyone and I researched it extensively and it changed my life,” she said.
