Sir Keir Starmer was born in London and raised in Surrey, where he attended the selective state school Reigate Grammar School. He later went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Leeds and gained a postgraduate Bachelor of Civil Law degree from the University of Oxford. He is now the leader of the Labour Party, but how much is he worth?

After qualifying for the bar, Sir Keir acted exclusively as a defence lawyer, specialising in human rights issues.

In 2008, he became Director of Public Prosecutions and Head of the Crown Prosecution Service.

The high-ranking barrister also fought for human rights and legal reform in both the Caribbean and Northern Ireland.

After leaving these roles in 2013, he was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in the 2014 New Year Honours.

According to Idol Net Worth, the politician is worth an eye-watering £7.7million.

This is £6.3million more than the current Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, according to the same website.

Jeremy Corbyn, whom Sir Keir replaced as the Leader of the Labour Party, is said to be worth £3million, according to Spear’s Magazine.

Sir Keir was elected to the House of Commons in the 2015 general election and became the Shadow Minister for Immigration before being appointed to the Shadow Cabinet a year later as Shadow Secretary for Exiting the European Union.

He advocated a second referendum on Brexit, saying he would have voted to remain.

After Labour’s defeat in the 2019 general election, he was elected to succeed Jeremy Corbyn as Labour Leader in April 2020.

In his acceptance speech, he said he would refrain from “scoring party political points” and that he planned to “engage constructively with the government”.

In his personal life, the politician married Victoria Alexander in 2007.

She previously worked as a solicitor but now works in NHS occupational health.

The couple have a son and daughter and live in their Kentish Town home.

The family home in North London is worth an estimated £1.8million after the family purchased it for £650,000 in 2004.

Despite his huge fortune, Sir Keir has been keen to emphasise where he came from.

He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme in 2019: “My dad worked in a factory, he was a toolmaker, and my mum was a nurse, and she contracted a very rare disease early in her life that meant she was constantly in need of NHS care.

“So, actually, my background isn’t what people think it is – I know what it’s like.

“I actually never had been in any workplace other than a factory until I left home for university. I’d never been in an office.

“So the idea that somehow I personally don’t know what it’s like for people across the country in all sorts of different circumstances is just not borne out.”

Keir Starmer will appear on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories tonight at 9pm on ITV.
