Meghan and Harry post a special Canada Day tribute to the country where their love blossomed – including a tiny sports jacket gifted to Baby Archie

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have posted a sweet tribute to the country their love blossomed in to coincide with World Canada Day.

Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34, took to their Instagram Sussex Royal late on Monday to pay tribute to Canada – which they described as being ‘a special place for both’.

In the post, prince Harry and American-born Meghan, who relocated from California to Canada while she filmed hit drama Suits, said they have ‘always been touched by the warmth, friendliness and hospitality of the Canadian people.’

Sharing a picture of a small child-sized jacket emblazoned with the Canadian and American flag, they thanked the country for their gifts for Archie and hinted that they planned to return ‘as a family’.

Meghan lived in Toronto during her time playing Rachel Zane in law drama Suits, where Harry would visit her frequently.

When news of their romance emerged in 2017, Meghan retired from acting and relocated to London to join Harry.

And pictures shared in a slideshow on the post showed the pair attending the Invictus Games during the early stages of their romance in September 2017, along with Harry meeting a young fan in 2016.

Elsewhere another slide shows Harry meeting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Toronto, while a final slide shows pregnant Meghan bending down to shake hands with a young well wisher outside Canada House in London after a Commonwealth Day reception this year.

The post’s caption read: ‘Canada is a very special place for both The Duke and Duchess. 

‘The Duke has been fortunate to visit the country several times throughout his life, including as a young child and most recently for the Invictus Games in 2017, where the now Duchess joined him to lend her support. 

‘The Duchess lived and worked in Toronto for many years and also spoke at the One Young World Summit held in Ottawa.’

It continued: ‘Earlier this year Their Royal Highnesses attended an event at Canada House in London to mark Commonwealth Day where they had the chance to meet many young Canadians doing great work here in the UK and around the world.

‘Their Royal Highnesses have always been touched by the warmth, friendliness and hospitality of the Canadian people. 

‘They hope to be able to visit again as a family, and they send their great thanks to all of the kind Canadians who have sent such special gifts for Archie!’

A final slide shows pregnant Meghan bending down to shake hands with a young well wisher outside Canada House in London after a Commonwealth Day reception this year

The post quickly racked up 330,000 likes, with one Canadian replying: ‘Thank you! We kind of adopted Meghan there for a bit and we hope to see you both back soon’.

‘The jacket for Archie is so cute’, another follower added of the sweet gift.

Another fan added: ‘Archie will be the best dressed baby on the planet!’ 

Meanwhile others took the opportunity to pay tribute to Harry’s late mother Diana on what would have been her 58th birthday on Monday. 

‘Happy Birthday Princess Diana’, one wrote, while another added: ‘Today is lady Diana’s birthday too, happy birthday!’.
