Mum proudly puffs on spliff and says smoking weed makes her a better parent

A woman says “you can still be a kickass mum and smoke weed” – and believes marijuana actually makes her a better parent.

Caitlin Fladager, who has more than 346,000 followers on Instagram, wants to normalise mums puffing on spliffs.

She lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, where cannabis is legal for medical and recreational purposes.

But even though she’s acting within the law, some people still judge her for getting high when she has primary school-aged kids – Arianna and Jack.

The 27-year-old refuses to let these comments get her down and recently posed with a spliff.

She stood next to a sign that reads: “Mum truth: Weed should be just as acceptable as a glass of wine”.

Caitlin captioned the image: “Yes, I have two kids. Yes, I smoke weed. ⁣

“It’s so funny to my how frowned upon marijuana is.

“No one looks twice when a mum says she enjoys ‘mum juice’ AKA wine, after her kids are in bed. But when a mum says she smokes weed, it’s a huge shock. ⁣⁣

“I talk about this to bring awareness. I feel as not enough people talk about this.

“Marijuana has helped me so much, especially when it comes to being a mum.”

Caitlin says weed helps her to feel more relaxed and rested.

She continued: “I have never been the most patient with my two kids.

“Weed makes me a better mum, as I get a good night sleep after I smoke. I wake up well rested, and with a more clear mind. ⁣

⁣“It’s okay to smoke weed after your kids go to bed. ⁣

⁣“It’s okay to smoke it to help with anxiety. Mine has been SO much better since I started smoking.

“It’s okay to smoke instead of drink. I used to have a problem with drinking, and my behaviour that came along with that. Weed has helped me to stop drinking so much, and to be honest, I much prefer smoking over drinking.”

Caitlin thinks weed should be normalised as much as drinking alcohol is.

She added: “Marijuana is my glass of wine. ⁣It’s my can of beer. ⁣It’s my relaxation time. ⁣

⁣“You can still be a kickass mom, and smoke weed.”

The post has garnered more than 15,200 likes – and many agreed with Caitlin’s argument.

One responder wrote: “Thank you for posting this – couldn’t agree more. From another smokin’ mum.”

Another said: “Who cares what people think! Too each their own! You gotta do whatever is best for you.”

And a third added: “I always get so down on my self or feel as I’m a bad mum because of this but truly it does help me be more patient and more imaginative with my daughter. Thank you for posting.”

In the UK, cannabis is illegal for recreational use and is classified as a Class B drug.

Health experts also haven’t concluded whether smoking weed is beneficial or not – and the effects can very from person to person.
