DEAR DEIDRE: ALTHOUGH I have been with my girlfriend for three years I have not met any of her mates.
Recently she asked me if I wanted to get a flat with her next year. It’s a big deal but knowing her friends is important too.
I am 28 and she is 26. I have mentioned wanting to meet her mates a few times but still it hasn’t happened.
It would make me more relaxed if I got to know them rather than her just giving me names. Because she isn’t on social media, I have to trust what she says.
It makes me feel rejected, like I’m kept hidden just in case we don’t work out.
It makes me hold back from committing to a flat with her.
DEIDRE SAYS: Some people like to keep a relationship private when they are not sure where it is going but three years is excessive.
She might be using you or she may even be worried about being embarrassed.
Either way, you are justified in being concerned about her secrecy.
If she really cares about you, she should want the world to know.
