For those of you who love to eat leftover pizza in the morning, we may have some extremely good news.
Breakfast, it’s the most important meal of the day. That’s what they say right? It might actually be one of the most overused cliches in the English language. However, so many of us still skip it. Either that, or we don’t eat anything nutritious. The longest you go without food during any given day is usually when you’re asleep, so you should really have something substantial when you wake up.
For those of us who do grab breakfast, there are a couple of go-tos. A slice of toast, a bowl of cereal, maybe even some eggs and bacon if we’ve got the time. Or, if we have had a takeaway the night before, there could well be some leftovers up for grabs. It feels wrong and unhealthy every time we do it, but you can rest assured it will happen again.
If you do feel a little shameful after wolfing down leftover pizza first thing in the morning, we have some good news for you. A nutritionist has revealed that pizza is better for you than cereals, or at least the more sugary cereals. Chelsey Amer explained to The Daily Meal why exactly pizza isn’t the worst option of all when you wake up.
“You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories,” Amer explained. That’s not all. Due to the higher protein content of pizza, it is far more likely to keep you fuller until lunch than cereal too. Plus, the obvious, pizza contains far less sugar than a lot of cereals.
Amer also wanted to make it clear during her interview that she is in no way saying that pizza is a health food, far from it. Something that we don’t feel needs to be said, but you never know. All she is clarifying is that should the choice be between a slice of pizza or a bowl of Frosties for breakfast, you are better off opting for the leftovers.
