Princess Beatrice keeps royal baby tradition ignored by Meghan Markle and sister Eugenie

Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have announced they are expecting their first child together.

The Queen’s granddaughter, 32, and her property developer husband, 38, choose to make the announcement via the traditional route of Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.

In a statement on the Royal Family's Instagram account, alongside a picture of the pair on their wedding day, it read: "Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year.

"The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news."

The mum to be opted for the traditional method to announce her pregnancy in contrast to her sister Princess Eugenie and her cousin Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who choose a more modern approach.

The Queen's granddaughter, 31, and her husband Jack Brooksbank, 35, shared their baby news on Eugenie's personal Instagram account in September last year.

The couple, who welcomed son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank in February, posted a picture holding a sweet pair baby booties to the social media account, captioned: “Jack and I are so excited for early 2021…”

Buckingham Palace announced the arrival of the Queen’s great-grandchild, captioned: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9th February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present.

“The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news.


“This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s first child, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York’s first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

Meanwhile Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, also used a photo on their own social media to announce that they were expecting a second child.

The royal couple posted a gorgeous black and white photo of Harry resting his hand on Meghan's head as she lays in his lap underneath a tree, cradling her blossoming baby bump.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are already parents to two year old son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, said their first child was set to become a "big brother" to the baby girl who is due this summer.

Captioning the post, a spokesperson for the couple said: "We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
