The Kardashians’ biggest missteps of 2020

The Kardashian and Jenner siblings have long spun controversy into gold. After several hiccups throughout the year, however, it seems the reality stars are being called to the carpet more than ever.

From pandemic parties and wasting supplies to fighting and promoting conspiracy theories, here are the family’s biggest missteps of 2020.

Being sued by the paparazzi

This is a pretty light offense, as several celebs — including Jennifer Lopez and Gigi Hadid — have also been sued after posting pap snaps to their personal social media pages without coughing up dough.

In January, photographer Saeed Bolden claimed in a copyright infringement lawsuit that he took a photo of Kim Kardashian and husband Kanye West in 2018 that the star later shared without paying for proper image rights.

Sister Khloé was the target of a similar lawsuit filed in 2017 by a different photographer who snapped her with older sister Kourtney leaving David Grutman’s Komodo restaurant in Miami.

Khloé Kardashian selling sample dresses online

Designer Christian Cowan accused the 36-year-old reality star of selling borrowed runway samples on her Kardashian Kloset website. Cowan also alleged that he reached out to Kardashian’s team multiple times about the move and was ignored.

In her defense, a source told Page Six at the time that the items were “gifted to her through her stylist without a mention of a loan and it was never asked to be returned.”

Kylie Jenner refusing to credit designers

The makeup mogul came up against some pushback from the fashion world, as she was accused of purposefully “refusing” to tag a black-owned fashion brand, Loud Brand Studios, on her Instagram — which she denied. Soon after, designer Michael Costello blasted Jenner for only acknowledging A-listers on her highly-influential social media pages.

“It’s sad that designers work so so so so hard on these opportunities to dress these gorgeous popular women and they only tag the major high end designers like Oliver [Rousteing]  but forget about the other ones,” Costello wrote at the time. “Why not tag at least one? Not all the time but maybe once in a while.”

Fighting for the cameras

The usually in-sync sisters had a tumultuous year on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” as Kim and Kourtney Kardashian came to blows during the Season 18 while Kendall Jenner and Kylie brawled early during Season 19, which is currently still airing.

Continuing their feud with Taylor Swift

The nearly decade-long feud between Taylor Swift and the Wests reignited in March after audio from the now-infamous 2016 phone call — where Swift and Kanye West discussed the controversial use of her name in his song “Famous” — was leaked in full.

Rather than let the moment die on its own, Kim stirred the pot by repeatedly calling Swift a “liar” in defense of her husband. Fortunately, it seems Kim is no longer sweating the small stuff.

“This will be the last time I speak on this because honestly, nobody cares,” Kardashian said shortly after the audio leak. “Sorry to bore you all with this. I know you are all dealing with more serious and important matters.”

Wasting toilet paper during a national shortage

Khloé’s choice to TP Kourtney’s home during a COVID 19-induced toilet paper shortage was inconsiderate at best.

“Every single Kardashian is srsly [sic] ‘tone deaf,’” one person tweeted. “Kourtney just posted video of her yard covered in toilet paper because her son and Khloe TP’d it….at a time when people are desperate for tp during the pandemic… It’s wild how vastly different their reality is from the majority.”

Constant cultural appropriation allegations

The Kardashians and Jenners have long been accused of cultural appropriation, and 2020 has been no different, as Kim was called out in March for wearing braids to West’s Spring 2020 Yeezy show in Paris.

Little sister Kylie caught even more heat for referring to herself as a “brown skinned girl,” later changing the Instagram caption to “Brown eyed girl.”

Kylie’s self-promo during major world events

More recently, Jenner announced a Kylie Cosmetics restock on election night, which didn’t sit well with followers.

“Kylie we love you but not the time,” one fan responded to her tweet, while another wrote, “Kylie, there is an election going on. I think this could’ve waited?”

Kylie allegedly faked way to billionaire status

The youngest Jenner was called out by Forbes magazine this year for allegedly using bogus tax returns to earn the crown of Forbes’ youngest-ever self-made billionaire.

“Kylie’s business is significantly smaller, and less profitable, than the family has spent years leading the cosmetics industry and media outlets, including Forbes, to believe,” the mag later said.

Forbes estimates Kylie is worth just under $900 million.

Kourtney backs Kanye, promotes conspiracy theory

The eldest Kardashian daughter was branded “embarrassing” for modeling “Vote Kanye” merch in support of her brother-in-law’s failed bid for president.

Soon after, she was called out for peddling a conspiracy theory about so-called health risks of surgical masks, claims that were denounced by actual experts.

Tone-deaf parties amid the pandemic

Once again, the rich clique was accused of being “tone-deaf” after Kim revealed she flew her inner circle to a private island for her 40th birthday amid the coronavirus pandemic. Less than two weeks later, Kendall was called out for throwing her own Halloween birthday bash, even while attempting to keep the party low-key by banning social media snaps. Unfortunately, guests — including sister Kylie — posted about the party anyway.

“Nurses/doctors etc are begging people to social distance and have empathy. Celebs just raise a big middle fingers to them,” said one Twitter user of the event.
