Customers at the Reading store will find a wide variety on the menu, from fresh British beef burgers, real whole breast chicken fillet sandwiches and salads made fresh every day – such as the Chicken Caesar or Apple Cranberry – and hearty sides including Baked Potatoes, Baconator fries and Wendy’s famous Chili con Carne.

Wendy’s is set to open it’s first branch in the UK on Wednesday, 21 years after the popular American fast food chain closed all it’s doors of British shores.

The US restaurant, which is known for its spicy nuggets and square burgers will open two branches in the next five months, one in Reading and a second in Oxford.

Locations in London are also being explored by Wendy’s, who are looking for franchise owners for their stores.

The burger chain, which is the third largest  in the world after McDonald’s and Burger King, hasn’t revealed how many locations it will open or how many jobs it’s UK expansion will create.

Currently, there are 6,700 Wendy’s across 30 countries.

This isn’t a debut for the fast food joint, who are well known for their viral marketing stunts and Twitter campaigns.

The brand first opened stores in the UK in the 1980s but closed them all in 1999.

But the last two decades has seen soaring success for US fast food joints in the UK.

Cult US fast food brand Popeyes is set to open its first restaurant in the UK this year, while Wendy’s, which is known for its spicy nuggets and square burgers said they are set to open two branches in the next five months in the UK,.

Five Guys, which first opened in the UK in 2013, now has 95 restaurants with three more set to open this year.

Shake Shack also opened it’s first restaurant in London in 2013 and now has 19 locations in the UK.

More recently, Taco Bell has made a successful journey across the pond, while Chick-fil-A opened in Reading in 2019 but closed following a row about it’s parenting company funding anti-LGBT organisations.
