Dracula stars now – Harry Potter fame, criminal conviction and tragic deaths

Dracula is one of horror's most famous characters, leading to multiple films including the Hammer House series starring Christopher Lee and most recently, the BBC's critically acclaimed tv series starring Claes Bang in the title role.

In 1992, the character was once again brought to the silver screen, in a Hollywood blockbuster Bram Stoker's Dracula.

The film combined horror, romance and a host of A-listers in a gothic epic, complete with accompanying soundtrack Love song for a Vampire by music icon Annie Lennox.

We look at where the cast of Bram Stoker's Dracula are now – from career reinventions, criminal convictions and tragic losses.

Gary Oldman – Dracula

Gary Oldman's interpretation of Dracula was both terrifying and passionate in equal measure, with his performance cementing his status as one of the greatest on screen Draculas.

Considered one of the greatest character actors of all time, Gary Oldman has since taken on a number of roles, including the Academy Award winning Winston Churchill in the Darkest Hour in 2017, and as Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise.

He most recently starred in award nominated film Mank in 2020, and 2021 TV series Slow Horses.

Gary isn't the old famous actor in his family though, as his sister Liala Morse also played Mo Harris in BBC soap EastEnders.

The actor has also been married three times, first to actress Lesley Manville from 1987-1989, with who he had a son Alife, and in 1990, he then married another Hollywood a-lister, Uma Thurman, but the couple divorced two years later.

From 1997-2001, he was married to model Donya Fiorentino, with who he had two sons Gulliver and Charlie, before marrying art curator Gisele Schmidt in 2017.

Winona Ryder – Mina Harker

Winona Ryder is one of horror and fantasy films' go to actresses, with roles in Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands (where she met former boyfriend Johnny Depp who she dated for four years) and teen cult classic Heathers, alongside former boyfriend Christian Slater, who she is still close friends with.

While on set of Dracula, where she played Mina Harker, Winona developed a close bond with actor Keanu Reeves, telling Vanity Fair magazine: "I just love being together with him so much," and the two have remained close friends, with Winona saying that Keanu still writes her letters.

In 2001, the actress was caught shoplifting at a store in Beverley Hills, California and in the noughties she took a career hiatus from acting.

Since then, she has appeared in films and programmes including Mr Deeds, TV comedy Friends, Star Trek in 2009, and also appeared in 2010's Black Swan, alongside lending her voice to Tim Burton's animated film Frankenweenie.

Since then, new generations of fans have been introduced to Winona's phenomenal talents as Joyce Byers in the Netflix hit series Stranger Things.

She is also in a relationship with her partner, the fashion designer Scott Mackinlay Hahn, who she has been dating since 2011.

Keanu Reeves – Jonathan Harker

Keanu Reeves was already a huge star as the nineties began, having appeared in films including Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure/Bogus Journey and also Point Break, alongside his friend and late actor River Phoenix.

In Bram Stoker's Dracula, Keanu played Jonathan Harker and appeared in a number of Hollywood roles in films during the nineties including The Devil's Advocate, The Matrix Trilogy and Speed.

However, during this time he also suffered two personal losses, when his girlfriend Jennifer Symes gave birth to their daughter, who was stillborn.

The couple broke up a little while later and in 2001, Jennifer was killed in a car crash.

After appearing in a few films in the noughties that did less well at the box office, Keanu's career has rocketed again after appearing in the John Wick movies, with a fourth sequel on the way, followed by a new Matrix film and the release of critically acclaimed comedy Bill and Ted: Face the Music last year.

He is also currently dating the artist Alexandra Grant, who he met in 2019.

Richard E Grant – Dr Seward

Richard E Grant is another of the great character actors, having first rose to fame in films including Withnail and I in 1987, How to Get Ahead in Advertising and Jack and Sarah, before playing Dr Seward in Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Since then, he has starred in further Hollywood blockbusters The Hitman's Bodyguard, TV mini series Jekyll and Hyde and family comedy The Little Vampire.

He most recently starred in the award nominated film Can you Ever Forgive Me? in 2018, musical Everybody's Talking About Jamie and the Disney series Loki, as one of the character's many variants.

Richard also said he loved playing the role of Classic Loki, telling Entertainment Tonight that if he was asked back to the Marvel Comic Universe he "wouldn't say no, if asked. Put it that way."

His daughter followed in his movie industry footsteps working as a casting director, but sadly his wife, the acclaimed voice coach Joan Washington who he was married to from 1986, died earlier this year of cancer.

Anthony Hopkins – Van Helsing

Award winning actor Anthony Hopkins was already a huge Hollywood name by the early nineties, with star turns in films including Hannibal Lecter in 1991's Silence of the Lambs and tv mini series Great Expectations.

In 1992, he starred as Dr Abraham Van Helsing in Bram Stoker's Dracula, going on to appear in a number of Hollywood blockbusters including Legends of the Fall opposite Brad Pitt in 1994, tv series Westworld and as Odin in the Marvel Thor films.

Anthony Hopkins most recently won an Academy Award for his performance in The Father, and is listed as appearing in films such as The Son in 2022.

He has been married three times, first to Petronella Barker, with who he had a daughter Abigail Hopkins from 1966-1972, and then to Jennifer Lynton from 1973-2002.

He married his third wife, Stella Aroyave in 2003.

Cary Elwes – Arthur Holmwood

Cary Elwes rose to fame as the handsome Westley in fantasy classic The Princess Bride in 1987, before starring as Lord Arthur Holmwood, the fiancé of Lucy Westenra, in Bram Stoker's Dracula.

He has never left our screens, appearing in 1990's Days of Thunder and Hot Shots!, Mel Brooks Comedy Robin Hood: Men in Tights in 1993, TV series The X-Files from 2001-2002, Ella Enchanted in 2004 and Perception in 2021.

Cary and Dracula co-star Winona Ryder were also reunited on screen in 2019, when Cary starred as Mayor Larry Kline in Stranger Things 3.

Most recently, he has lent his voice to the animated series Family Guy in a number of roles and is listed as appearing in 2022's Mission Impossible 7.

He has been married to his wife Lisa Marie Kubikoff since 2000, and they have one daughter, Dominique Elwes.

Sadie Frost – Lucy Westenra

Actress and producer Sadie Frost played Lucy Westenra in Bram Stoker's Dracula, who is killed by Van Helsing after being turned into one of Dracula's brides.

Before Dracula, she starred in the Gold music video where she met ex-husband and Spandau Ballet star Gary Kemp, who she was married to from 1988 to 1997, along with roles in programmes including Press Gang, Boon and Press Gang.

Since then, she has appearing in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie in 2016, and is listed as appearing in 2022 film The Chelsea Cowboy.

Aside from acting, Sadie is also an entrepreneur and set up her own fashion label, Frost Fashion, which she ran in the noughties.

She also set up her own production company, Natural Nylon with ex-husband Jude Law, with who she has two children, in addition to co-founding Blonde to Black pictures in 2012, with friend Emma Comley.
