It’s been 40 years since Elvis Presley’s home of Graceland opened to the public for tours. The last family member to live there was The King’s Aunt Delta, who died in 1993, long after the house became a museum. Nevertheless, the late star’s daughter Lisa Marie Presley still likes to visit what is still very much home for her, including during the holidays.

Graceland archivist Angie Marchese has previously said in a Graceland livestream: “One of Lisa’s favourite things to do here is to actually share with her kids and her friends her memories of Graceland. And do things that Elvis and her used to do like ride golf carts or see the horses and things like that. They do come quite often. This is still her home.”

Asked if the kitchen appliances still work, the Elvis expert said: “Yes the kitchen appliances do work. They’re turned off for fire safety, but they do still work. And when Lisa Marie and her family are here we fire then up and sometimes they’ll have dinner here in the mansion.”

The china The King’s daughter uses for such meals is kept in a secret room that’s not on the tour.

Towards the back of Graceland’s kitchen is Aunt Delta’s bedroom. Inside the drawers is the china Lisa Marie eats off when visiting her father’s house after tours have ended. If she and her family are having a family meal like Thanksgiving, they sit at the dining room table but with an extra one added on the end for more guests.

In an unearthed interview, Elvis’ daughter shared just how special a place it was for such family gatherings.

Lisa Marie previously told USA Today: “It’s a very special place…it shuts down quite nice at night. I have family that I love very much who live there in Memphis. When I go… I visit [Graceland]. We have dinner there. My family still goes there, and we still have a life there.”

Asked what she and her children do when they visit Elvis’ home, Lisa Marie highlighted the occasional Thanksgiving, saying: “Mom wasn’t there then, but we’re going to be there in a couple of weeks, together. I have stayed there [overnight] in the past but not recently, no.”
