George Michaels sister who died on same date as star left only small fortune

George Michael’s sister Melanie Panayiotou reportedly left behind a small fortune despite receiving a massive sum from her brother’s will.

Melanie, who passed away aged 59 on Christmas Day in 2019 – exactly three years after George – left just £6million after she died without a will.

Melanie and older sister Yioda were believed to have inherited the most from George’s £97m fortune following his passing in 2016.

The Sun revealed that probate papers revealed Melanie’s estate to be valued at £6.2m after her affairs were settled following her death.

According to the publication, sister Yioda found Melanie – who reportedly died after falling into a diabetic coma – at their late brother’s mansion in Highgate, North London.

Melanie is said to have struggled to overcome her brother’s death at age 53.

George, whose hits include Last Christmas and Careless Whisper, died on Christmas Day at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, where partner Fadi Fawaz had found his body.

In a statement, Fadi said: “We were supposed to be going for Christmas lunch. I went round there to wake him up, and he was just gone, lying peacefully in bed."

He later tweeted: “It’s a Xmas. I will never forget finding your partner dead peacefully in bed first thing in the morning… I will never stop missing you xx.”

George’s death was initially recorded as unexplained but not suspicious by police after an initial post-mortem came back as inconclusive.

It wasn’t until weeks later that George’s friends and family finally got to lay the singer to rest when the official finding into his cause of death were delayed while the coroner examined the toxicology test results.

A coroner confirmed that the pop star died due to heart and liver disease.

According to Darren Salter, senior coroner for Oxfordshire, George was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver.
