Goggleboxs Shaun Ryder warns Dancing on Ice stars pal Bez is very competitive

If anyone knows Gogglebox star Bez, it’s his good friend and Happy Mondays bandmate Shaun Ryder.

Ahead of next year’s Dancing on Ice, the 59-year-old wanted to make sure the upcoming contestants know what they’re letting themselves in for going up against his pal.

Talking to Express.co.uk, the singer explained that Bez, 57, is new to skating but absolutely hates losing.

He said: "It’s great, it’s f*****g great. He’s never ice skated before, but Bez is very competitive”.

Lancashire-born Bez revealed he’d be taking part in the popular ITV show – which sees celebs and pro figure skaters hit the ice in front of a panel of judges – back in October.

He appeared on This Morning to share the exciting news the night after participating in a celebrity boxing match, and Shaun was knocked sideways by the announcement.

The northern lad explained: “He had just done his celebrity boxing match. He did it the night before it was announced he was doing the show on This Morning, so I expected him to be all black and blue on that but he wasn’t!”

"He will love it! He does not realise he's almost 60, he thinks he's 21!" Shaun added.

Bez was the second star confirmed to be taking part in next year’s Dancing on Ice – the show’s 14th series – with Corrie actress Sally Dynevor announced earlier.

Talking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield on the ITV brekkie show, he joked: "At the moment, it’s more like Bambi on ice, not Dancing On Ice”.

“How I got picked, I don’t know because I was absolutely awful at the audition – but they must have seen something there, some potential”, the Gogglebox star added.

He went on to say: "I think that’s why they picked me because I haven’t got any bad habits because I can’t skate.

"Last year at Christmas I ended up borrowing my son’s penguin to get round the ice rink”.

Shaun recently slammed Paige Deville’s reasons for leaving Gogglebox, claiming her accusations against the show’s bosses were unfounded.

He told Express.co.uk: "You f*****g turn on the telly and watch f*****g five minutes of something and have a laugh. It’s f*****g not dramatic is it?"

In response, Paige told BirminghamMail that she thinks Shaun is a "troll".
