Today is the birthday of Michael Jackson, who would have been 62. He died in 2009, surrounded by court cases, discussed by everybody but truly known by very few. Lisa Marie revealed how their bond was based on things few people could ever understand. Even though many thought it had been a publicity stunt, she described how their marriage was “normal in every sense” and yet also extraordinary. She said was able to give him what almost nobody else in the world could.
Lisa Marie gave several interviews about their marriage but on June 26, 2009, the day after Jackson’s death, she posted an emotional message on her blog.
“Our relationship was not “a sham” as is being reported in the press. It was an unusual relationship yes, where two unusual people who did not live or know a “Normal life” found a connection, perhaps with some suspect timing on his part.
“Nonetheless, I do believe he loved me as much as he could love anyone and I loved him very much.”
The following year, Elvis’ daughter explained what she meant in a revealing interview.
She told Oprah Winfrey: “I honestly can tell you that in every sense it was a normal marriage. Everything was spoken.
“In the middle of the night if he needed to wake and tell me something or bounce something off me and talk if there was trouble…
“He was like a little gnome I used to tell him, running around the room, because I couldn’t sleep (when he was awake). It was a bit endearing and I didn’t mind it but he did have a hard time sleeping.”
Not only does this clarify that they did share a bed, Lisa Marie also confirmed the unique bond she shared with her husband.
Lisa Marie said: “I really loved that role and I loved taking caring him. It was the highest point of my point of my life, when things were going really well and we were united together.”
But did they consummate their marriage?
Appearing in US TV the newlyweds were bluntly asked just that and Lisa Marie said: “Do we have sex?” and they both answered: “Yes! Yes! Yes!”
Years later, Lisa Marie explained that Michael was drawn to her as one of the few other people in the world who could understand living with such fame and attention after growing up with Elvis.
She added: “He and I had an understanding about the people and things that would go around him. He was with me on thoses things and we were a unit and I could take care of him – in spite of what some people speculated while I was with him that I wanted a career (from being with him), which was BS. I don’t like attention on me.
“I loved taking care of him. I was on such a high doing that. It was a very profound time in my life. It was real.”

Their marriage ended after ony a year and a half. Lisa Marie says it was not what she wanted but Jackson left her no choice with his behaviour.
She said: “I was very angry (when the marriage ended). I felt we were so united and at some point he pushed me out.
“There was a very profound point when he had to make the decision; Was it the drugs and vampires (sycophants and enablers) or me? And he pushed me away.”
The couple separated in December 1995 with Presley citing “irreconcilable differences” and only seeking to return to her maiden name in the settlement.
