Priscilla Presley gained notoriety for her marriage to Elvis Presley and is the mother of his only child, Lisa Marie. But when she met The King she was fresh-faced and living with her family in Germany, and the singer was in the Army. There was certainly an age difference between them – but how much was it?

How much older was Elvis Presley when he met Priscilla?

When Priscilla and Elvis met, Priscilla was 14-years-old, and The King would have been 24-years-old.

This means their age difference is 10 years, though because of their birth dates it is more like 10 years and four months.

The pair met in Germany while Elvis was stationed there, and Priscilla was living there.

The then-known Priscilla Beaulieus’s stepfather was in the Air Force, and she spent her life travelling and living at bases all over the globe.

One of these bases was Germany, and while she may have been reluctant to go there initially, The King’s arrival certainly made that better.

For Elvis, he had only been in the army for a short time, having been forced to take a short period of leave after his mother, Gladys, died.

Eventually, Elvis travelled again with the US Army to Germany, and according to Priscilla, they were introduced at a party by another officer.

According to a 1985 interview with People magazine, Priscilla was introduced to Elvis by another officer, but the 14-year-old was very shy about meeting her icon.

Describing the moment she met Elvis, Priscilla told People magazine in 1985: “As [Officer] Currie led me over to him, Elvis stood up and smiled. ‘Well,’ he said, ‘what have we here? What are you, about a junior or senior in high school?’

“I blushed and said nothing, not willing to reveal that I was only in the ninth grade. ‘Well?’ he persisted.

“‘Ninth.’ Elvis looked confused. ‘Ninth what?’ ’Grade,’ I whispered.

“’Ninth grade,’ he said and started laughing. ‘Why, you’re just a baby.’”

Despite his being a celebrity and much older than her, Priscilla recalls how desperately he tried to woo her in those early days, which she noticed was partially due to her trying not to show her delight.

She said: “I saw Elvis trying to get my attention. I noticed that the less response I showed, the more he began singing just for me.

“I couldn’t believe that Elvis Presley was trying to impress me…

“The [second] visit was similar to the first, then, on the third visit, after Elvis had finished singing, he came up to me.

“’I want to be alone with you, Priscilla. Will you come upstairs to my room?’

“As he spoke, he was smoothing my hair. ‘I swear I’ll never do anything to harm you.’

“He sounded absolutely sincere. ‘I’ll treat you just like a sister.’”

She said they talked about how he missed his mother, and cuddled, then afterwards she had her ‘first real kiss’ from him, but nothing more happened.

In the end, he brought her to Graceland to live with him, though initially she was living elsewhere in the house, until they married in 1967, when Priscilla was 23-years-old and Elvis was 33.

A year later, they had their only child, Lisa Marie, and in 1973, when Priscilla was still in her 20s, the couple divorced.

Priscilla celebrates her 76th birthday on May 24, 2021.
