Radio 1Xtras Ace launches Everything R&B Live showcasing five unsigned artists

Radio 1Xtra presenter Ace has launched a new project aimed at kickstarting the careers of five unsigned R&B artists.

Everything R&B Live will take five unsigned UK artists to develop their knowledge and connections within the live music industry, enhance their performance skills, and be introduced to new audiences as they tour the UK.

Ace is a seasoned DJ renowned for championing R&B music across radio and clubs.

His relentless support of UK R&B has seen a prominent resurgence in the genre, with interest from across the board, and his shows are a springboard for new talent to have an opportunity to shine.

He's now urging talented artists to apply to the project.

He said: “I’m really excited about unearthing, developing and showcasing some of the next-gen from around the UK in live music, setting through this project and tour.

"I am hoping to find some real vocal gems in some of the underrepresented parts of the country.”

The education and talent development strand of the Everything R&B Live programme will include masterclasses delivered by revered industry professionals, and cover roles including tour manager, promoter, sound engineer, and stage technician.

Designed and developed by Yaw Owusu and Ray Paul, of The Playmaker Group, each of the five selected artists will represent a different city and as part of the live performance strand, they will headline in their own city supported by other members of the cohort.

The aim of the live tour is to showcase the participants and their music in their hometowns and beyond while building new audiences along the way.

Yaw, Executive Manager of The Playmaker Group, said: “R&B music creators and audiences in the UK have both been under-represented and under-served within mainstream offers of Black Music so we are really excited to kick off Everything R&B Live with Ace.

"This project will give both the artists and the audience an authentic experience that is not just going to be top quality but an eye-opening education whilst contributing to the growth of the new R&B scene in the UK.”

The tour takes place in 2022, and artists are now invited to apply to the project. The deadline for submissions is 23 November.
