Sean Connery’s son says he’d been ‘unwell for some time’ before he died aged 90

Sir Sean Connery's son Jason Connery has confirmed the James Bond legend died "peacefully" and had been "unwell for some time" before death.

The Scottish actor's family confirmed on Saturday that he has died at the age of 90 and now his son has released a statement to update fans on his father's wellness before he died.

While paying tribute to his dad, he said the 007 star was surrounded by his family and loved ones when he died in the Bahamas.

Jason said his dad's death was a "sad loss for people around the world" after his father rocketed to global stardom following his many performances as the British spy.

Speaking with the BBC, Jason recalled how his dad "had many of his family who could be in the Bahamas around him" when he died overnight in Nassau.

Jason told the publication: "We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time.

"A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor."

In a family statement released on October 31, they said he died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family".

The statement also said: "There will be a private ceremony followed by a memorial yet to be planned once the virus has ended."

Sir Connery was the first ever person to star as James Bond and starred in the likes of Dr No, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again.

Despite being met with initial disapproval over his portrayal of the famous fictional spy, Connery went on to define the role.

He played James Bond between 1962 and 1967, and again in 1971 and then 1983.

Connery made 007 a household name after starring in seven Bond movies, also including From Russia with Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball.

It wasn't just Bond that he was known for though, as he enjoyed a length film career with countless roles.

He starred in Murder on the Orient Express, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Dragonheart, among others.
