Lucy Lawless has stunned fans in a new selfie of herself where she looks unrecognisable from her 90s past as Xena: Warrior Princess.

She jumped on Twitter to share her thanks for people who donated to the fund of Dayna Grant, a stuntwoman who needs to undergo brain surgery after sustaining a concussion on the set of the new Lord of The Rings Amazon series.

Fans were shocked to see the stars new look as she followed up with a photo of herself in a reindeer onesie.

She wrote: "Renee O’Connor sent me this ridic onesie for my birthday and it is so freakishly cold that I’m wearing it as pajamas down the farm. Best Jimjams eva (as long as I don’t sit too close to the fire.)Thanks, Ren!"

Now sporting short blonde hair and glasses in her video thanking fans, she looks entirely different to the role people know her best for.

While Lucy is known for her portrayal of Xena, she’s made sure to use the platform for good as she embraced the idea that Xena was an LGBT icon.

In a 2003 interview with Lesbian Magazine she said that the relationship between Xena and companion Gabrielle was gay, saying “they’re married, man.”

She has since had a lesbian sex scene in Spartacus, openly supports gay marriage and appears at gay pride events, leading to her being given the Star 100-Ally of the year award in 2017 for her efforts.

Lawless continues to appear in film and television, has had a minor singing career and is a member of the board of trustees for the Starship Foundation, a charity that provides equipment and help to staff at the Starship Children’s Hospital.

However, things haven't always gone to plan.

In 2012 she was arrested for boarding an oil drilling ship for 77 hours as a part of a Greenpeace protest.

Lucy’s latest post supporting Dayna Grant is close to her heart because Dayna worked as her stuntwoman on Xena: Warrior Princess.
