Alison Hammond stunned her This Morning co-host Dermott O'Leary with the admission that she "had to sign-on" after Big Brother.

The 46-year-old appeared on Lorraine Kelly alongside her on-screen partner in a tell-all interview.

During the discussion Alison said she'd wanted to return to her old job at the cinema but on her first day back they dismissed her.

Alison shot to fame after she'd taken part in the hit reality show Big Brother in 2002.

Speaking to Lorraine about her lengthy career with ITV, Alison confirmed she'd been working on the day time favourite for 18 years.

Although Alison had been snapped up by This Morning just two weeks after her stint on Big Brother, she admitted she'd been left in limbo when it came to her career.

The Birmingham-star, who was a child actress had previously been an usherette at a cinema – along with being a holiday rep.

After her 15-days in the famous Channel 4 house had finished, Alison attempted to return to normality but was shocked to discover her life had changed dramatically.

The TV star aired: "After Big Brother I went back to the cinema and they said what are you doing here you're too famous."

Soon after being let go, Alison explained to Lorraine and Dermott: "Yeah, I went and signed on and went to the job centre."
