Anne Hegerty pulls out of entire series of ITV’s Beat the Chasers due to illness

Anne Hegerty, aka The Governess, is set to be replaced on the upcoming series of Beat The Chasers after she was forced to pull out due to illness.

The quizzing queen – who has been one of the longest standing chasers on the show since joining back in 2010 – took to social media to share the disappointing news with fans.

The 63 year old former I'm A Celeb star took to social media to explain: "Unfortunately I’ve contracted Covid-19 so won’t be filming this series of #BeatTheChasers.

"The fantastic @Issa25 will be stepping in for me and I’m looking forward to watching the series when it’s on air later this year. I feel fine, but I'm still positive! (in all respects)."

Comments from fans of the popular 5pm quiz hit quickly flooded in, with many telling Anne that they hope she gets well and return to screens soon.

"Oh, I hope you are back to full health soon Anne," one wrote, whilst another wished her a "speedy recovery".

One sorrowful viewer also commented that they'll "probably give it a miss" if The Governess herself wouldn't be part of the show.

However, Anne responded by telling them that they "absolutely should", as there would still be "six superb chasers".

Yesterday saw The Chase's Twitter account confirm the news, writing: "Unfortunately, Anne 'The Governess' Hegerty has contracted Covid-19, so won't be filming the upcoming Beat The Chasers."

They added: "We look forward to having her back on set soon."

ITV also revealed who was in line to replace her, with The Chase Australia star and seven-time winner of the Australian Quizzing Championships, Issa Shultz stepping up to the plate.

The Aussie brainiac, who ranked 23rd in the quizzing world in 2020, has also appeared on the likes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and bizarrely, Hell's Kitchen Australia.

And it wouldn't be The Chase without an iconic nickname… Issa is known Down Under as 'The Supernerd'.

Anne recently admitted the inspiration behind her alter-ego ' 'The Governess' – revealing that she "doesn't like either of them".

The quizzing legend explained that she based her severe and stubborn persona off of her grandmother and aunt, adding that she "didn't get on at all well" with her grandmother due to her frosty demeanour.

She teased that she "made use of women she didn't like" and used her own experience to her advantage on-screen, where she is well known for her quickfire sass and witty remarks.
