Today has turned out to be an incredibly good day for I’m A Celeb fans – as Ant and Dec have confirmed the location for the 2022 series, and it’s good news.
Fans have been deprived of the show’s usual stint in the Outback these past few years, as the TV series had to be set in Gwrych Castle in Wales due to the pandemic.
But as we emerge out of the worst of the pandemic, things on our TV screens are beginning to get back to normal again.
And I'm A Celebrity's Ant and Dec confirmed today that the show would be returning to its “spiritual home” – the Australian jungle.
Ant said to Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Heart Radio this morning (May 26): “The plan is we're going back to Australia. It's got to go back to hits spiritual home. Everyone wants to see a bit of sunshine at that time of year on the telly."
The Sun reports that fans felt the last series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! on ITV fell flat of their expectations, after a storm ripped through the area in North Wales and caused major damage to the castle – causing the show to be suspended temporarily.
Mark Rough, director of customer operations at Scottish Southern and Electricity Network (SSEN), said the storm was “one of the most significant weather events we have experienced in decades”.
But it wasn’t just the storm that dampened viewers’ spirits – fans also reported feeling the trials were too easy, and the show lacked drama.

A Sun poll revealed that over 40 per cent of viewers felt the show should have a year off – for the first time ever, while over two thirds didn’t want to see celebs return to Gwrych Castle ever again.
A source said: “The castle was a worthy venue for a year, but the viewers clearly want Australia or nothing.
“The novelty of a new location was exciting last year, but in 2022 it just has to beOzagain.”
Eighty per cent of viewers also confirmed they felt the trials were too easy for the celebs – and wanted to see them pushed harder.
So if all goes to plan, this years’ series should have a hell of a lot more to offer.
But we’ll wait to see if the trials blow viewers’ socks off this time.
