BBC Breakfast waved goodbye to one of its main presenters Louise Minchin earlier this year. She left the programme in mid-September after having worked on the hit morning news show for 20 years. Last month, the BBC announced Sally Nugent as Louise’s official replacement. Ever since, Sally’s been presenting the show from Monday to Wednesday alongside Dan Walker. In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, BBC weather reporter Owain Wyn Evans has shared his thoughts about Sally taking over the role.

Speaking about his BBC Breakfast colleagues, Owain confessed he was “sad” to no longer be working with Louise.

He gave high praise to his former BBC co-star: “Louise is a great person, you know, and she’s so lovely.

“She’s just a genuinely nice person and I think what’s great about Louise is she is a great all-rounder.

“She’s a nice person, super experienced journalist, great presenter,” Owain commented.

However, he also praised Louise’s BBC Breakfast replacement Sally, highlighting how well she’s taken to her new role.

The meteorologist remarked: “Obviously it’s really sad that I won’t be working with Louise anymore, but Sally is amazing.

“And you know, she’s such a great person and is again genuinely lovely and just shines on screen.

“So, yeah, they’re both great,” he added.

The weather reporter also commented on Louise’s latest adventure on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Owain hinted he expects his former colleague to do well on the ITV reality show, noting how “fun” she is to be around.

“To be honest, I think you could slot Louise into any situation almost and she would be fabulous at it,” he said.

However, Owain isn’t the only BBC Breakfast star to have commented on Sally taking over Louise’s role on the show.

Presenter Dan also shared his thoughts on the news when it was first announced in October.

In a post on Twitter last month, Dan wrote: “I am so happy for @sallynugent.

“She is a brilliant presenter, massively popular with the team, an excellent journalist and a great friend.

“Hopefully we’ll have many happy years on the #BBCBreakfast sofa together,” he added.

BBC Breakfast editor Richard Frediani also commented on Sally’s appointment last month.

In a statement, he said: “Sally has an impressive track record as an award-winning broadcast journalist and has secured a series of high-profile exclusive interviews in recent years.

“We are delighted to have her take her new permanent place in the studio alongside Dan, Charlie and Naga.”

Fellow BBC Breakfast presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt present the programme in the latter part of the week.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
