Billy Drago, who starred in Charmed and The Untouchables, dies aged 73

Billy Drago, known as one of the movie world’s great ‘bad guys’, has died at the age of 73.

The actor passed away in Los Angeles on Monday following complications from a stroke, Variety reports.

Famous for playing villains and gangsters, some of his most memorable parts were in TV shows like Charmed and The Untouchables.

Drago – his mother’s maiden name – was a stage name for William Burrows, who began acting in the 1970s and went on to star in over 100 films.

One of the most famous was 1987 crime thriller The Untouchables, a film with Sean Connery and Kevin Costner, in which he portrayed real-life gangster Frank Nitti.

The popular film was about the Prohibition era in the United States as Costner’s character Federal Agent Eliot Ness set out to stop ruthless Chicago gangster Al Capone, whose henchmen included gritty Nitti.

Other famous films include Mad Dog Time and The Hills Have Eyes.

Aside from a 40-year career in movies, Drago regularly popped up in TV series Charmed playing Barbas, and even appeared in one of Michael Jackson’s music videos, You Rock My World.

He went on to marry fellow actress Silvana Gallardo, who died in 2012.
