Camilla Parker Bowles is a huge fan of the bestselling Roy Grace books and visited the set of the ITV adaptation of the novels last year. However, royal fans may be treated to an unexpected cameo after the author of the novels Peter James shared an intriguing conversation he had with the Duchess of Cornwall on set.

Speaking on The Argus Podcast, Peter opened up on his meeting with Camilla.

He revealed he asked the Duchess of Cornwall if she would like to appear in the drama and was stunned by her response.

Discussing the encounter, Peter said: “I asked her if she’d like to come to the set and see some of the filming.”

“She said, ‘Absolutely,’” the author and producer of Grace confirmed.

“[On set] I jokingly said, ‘Would you like a cameo in the next series?’

“And she said, ‘Yes maybe I could be a dead body.’”

Reflecting on the exchange, Peter remarked: “I think she might do something.

“I’m definitely going to drop her a note and say the offer is open.”

“She was really good fun,” the author added.

Camilla met the author and Grace producer during a visit to the West Sussex set in November.

Grace fans were thrilled when ITV announced three more feature-length episodes in May 2021.

The first batch of three 120 minute-long screenplays premiered in Match 2021.

The second season of the ITV drama began filming last autumn but it is not yet known when the series will air.

John Simm will return as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace who began investigating cold cases after the disappearance of his wife.

Richie Campbell stars as DS Glen Branson and Rakie Ayola as ACC Alison Vesper.

The upcoming episodes will be called Not Dead Enough and Dead Man’s Footsteps.

Dead Tomorrow completes the second trilogy of episodes.

The synopsis for the season two premiere reads: “Not Dead Enough sees Grace and Branson investigating the murder of wealthy socialite and patron of local charities, Katya Bishop, wife of a prominent Brighton entrepreneur who becomes the main suspect in the investigation.

“The Bishops seem to have led a charmed life until Grace digs deeper behind the respectable facade and discovers all is not what it seems.

“Doing so, however, places him unknowingly in grave danger.”

Grace season 2 will premiere in early 2022 on ITV.
