Clara Amfo is the fifth celebrity to be confirmed for the Strictly Come Dancing line-up.
The 36-year-old’s participation on the show was announced this morning on Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James, confirming weeks of rumours that the DJ would be signing up.
Clara said: ‘As we know this year has been a real challenge and escapism through dancing is something I know we all enjoy, so to be taught by a pro and live a fantasy is something that I can’t wait to fully embrace, see you on the dancefloor!’
The Live Lounge star, who hosts BBC Radio 1 from 10am to 1pm, also shared the news on Twitter, writing: ‘So this is happening’ followed by dancing girl emojis.
The announcement came just after the BBC star remained coy about the possibility of her dancing on Strictly this year in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan.
She said: ‘Look, Strictly is an amazing show. It’s so sweet-spirited; nobody ever watches it with a bad intention and that’s what I’ve always loved about it … I went to watch it [live] last season! The magic of it is so overwhelming.’
However, she said of the new attention: ‘I feel like I’m in this new phase of my career where I’m very aware of the new attention that’s on me. But I’m still quite a low-key person. I don’t view myself as acting particularly like a celebrity.
‘I understand it’s a public- facing job – I appear on television and I do radio – so people are going to recognise me. But I don’t live a particularly starry existence.’
Well, she’s about to get a whole lot more sparkle.
Clara joins actress Caroline Quentin, The Wanted’s Max George, NFL star Jason Bell and Good Morning Britain journalist Ranvir Singh on the line-up for the 18th series of Strictly.
This year’s series will be a shorter run than usual and will see the Strictly stars and pros working under new guidelines to protect themselves from the spread of Covid-19.
Strictly returns to BBC One later this year.
