Corrie Christmas preview reveals double wedding joy and murder shock

Over the past few years, Coronation Street has taken a step away from the usual drama and danger that comes with the festive season in soapland. We’ve had Christmas carol singing outside on the cobbles, a harmless fight between two men (Tyrone and Phill) and the Barlows/Platts spending a very awkward and long dinner together.

This year, things are slightly different and that’s largely down to one person – Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).

With Stephen still hanging around in Weatherfield, the lies and secrets he continues to tell are beginning to get complicated. He’s plotting his next move and desperately trying to cover his tracks, but Gabrielle (Helene Maksoud) is like a thorn in Stephen’s side and still threatening to reveal the truth about his money problems to his family.

As if that wasn’t enough, Stephen also has the small matter of Leo’s (Joe Frost) dad, Teddy, to deal with.

Convinced Leo’s lack of contact since his ‘exit’ to Canada is extremely unusual, Teddy is starting to have his doubts – but how close will he get to the truth?

And could Stephen murder over the festive period?

Elsewhere, on a lighter note – someone’s (probably) getting married!

That someone is Fiz (Jennie McAlpine), who doesn’t know of Tyrone’s (Alan Halsall) plan to tie the knot on Christmas Day.

He is determined to give his partner a Christmas to remember so, with help from the girls, Tyrone manages to sort the dress, venue and party – pretty impressive!

While Tyrone secretly plans the big event, Fiz is convinced Christmas Day is going to be mundane and dull.

As Tyrone makes his way down the stairs with Hope (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby (Macy Alabi), there’s a problem! Fiz is nowhere to be seen!

Will she be found in time for her own wedding, or has Ty’s dream backfired completely?

A wedding is also at the forefront of Daniel’s (Rob Mallard) mind soon as he plans a romantic proposal to Daisy (Charlotte Jordan).

After clearing things with Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) and Ken (William Roache), it looks as though Daniel getting down on one knee will be a success until disaster strikes – a burglary at the Barlows.

With the ring stolen, will Daniel put a pause on the engagement, or find another way?

Coronation Street will also continue the storyline looking at extremism and far-right political views over the December period, as Max continues to feel isolated from his family and finds himself in the company of Griff (Michael Condron) and his racist gang.

Left out in the cold, Max will be drawn further into this world, leaving him in serious danger.

In the Bistro, Nick (Ben Price) is troubled when new face Damon (Ciaran Griffiths) makes his arrival.

After he accepts money from Harvey (Will Mellor), Nick realises there are a lot more strings attached as Damon – who we know is Jacob’s (Jack James Ryan) father – will put pressure on the businessman, but will he tell Leanne (Jane Danson) what’s going on?

A couple of other storylines worth pointing out…

Following Summer’s (Harriet Bibby) miscarriage, will she continue to spin the lie over the festive period, allowing Mike and Esther to think their baby is on the way?

And when it comes to relationships, Todd (Gareth Pierce) does his best to come between Sean (Antony Cotton) and Laurence (Robert Shaw Cameron), George (Tony Maudsley) attempts to surprise Eileen (Sue Cleaver) with the perfect present, and will Sally’s (Sally Dynevor) gift to Tim (Joe Duttine) restore peace and harmony at their home?
