Dark season 3: What happened to Woller’s eye? Will we find out the truth in season 3?

Season two of Dark dropped on Netflix in June 21 after nearly a two-year wait for the second outing of the German time travel extravaganza from the streaming platform. Dark picked up from the startling finale of the first outing and threw us headlong down the rabbit hole further. The show spanned across multiple time periods with new characters introduced into the mix while we re-visited other ones. Despite Torben Wöller (played by Leopold Hornung) being a more minor character, fans want to know about the detective’s eye.

What happened to Woller’s eye?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Dark season 2

Dark fans will remember how Winden policeman Wöller ended up spending most of season one with his eye bandaged up after having a nasty off-screen accident.

Season two seemed to continue the mystery this year with Wöller now wearing glasses with a blacked out lens.

Wöller, who seems to spend most of series one annoying his boss Charlotte Dopler (Karoline Eichhorn), finally got some more screen time in season two and more dialogue.

Not only was Wöller revealed to be the brother of transgender call girl Benni (Anton Rubtsov) but he’d been hiding the radioactive waste from the nuclear power plant.

On top of that, Wöller spent most of season two assisting new detective Inspector Clausen (Sylvester Groth) as tried to get to the bottom of the missing people of Winden and the power plant’s involvement.

During their investigation, Clausen asked Wöller about his eye – with fans hoping the small mystery would finally be answered.

However, much to the disappoint of Dark fans everywhere, Wöller was stopped from revealing what happened when they nearly ran over Claudia Tiedemann (Julika Jenkins) who had travelled from the 80s to 2019.

So, viewers never really got an explanation – but this doesn’t mean we won’t find out the truth later on.

The creators of Dark have revealed they know exactly what happened to Wöller’s eye and hinted fans may never learn the truth.

Speaking to Indiewire, writer Jantje Friese teased: “We always think we have to answer everything. So every riddle we put in there, we feel we have to solve it.

“But we’re not going to solve every riddle because sometimes it’s funnier [that way]. I’m still not sure about the percentage, but it’s probably 10 percent [of the mysteries] we are not going to answer just for the fun of it, but they will be smaller.”

Friese added: “So, but I’m not going to tell you whether we’re going to or not.”

Some Dark fans have taken to Reddit and reached their own conclusions. One user called Cunningcory posted: “I thought maybe there was a quick shot of a pigeon hitting him on the head, but couldn’t remember it specifically.”

A number of fans think Wöller could have heterochromia – two differently coloured eyes – and perhaps be related to Claudia, who also had the condition.

Another person called djnorthstar explained: “The patch is because of an injury we dont know, yes. But its also covering his eye. They dont explain it in the first season. And now the 1000$ question why do you give a character such a special appearance, if there is no other story behind it.

“Im 99% sure they will use the eye patch as part of a plot twist later. Maybe its both, fighting with Boris and the other eye color [sic].”

Dark season three is currently in the process of filming. Although season three hasn’t got a release date from Netflix,

fans could hopefully get some kind of answer in the final run when it does drop.

Either way, Wöller does seem to have a bigger role to play in the story – along with Charlotte, who could be key to the cycles and the apocalypse.
