Emmerdale’s Meena Jutla (Paige Sandu) showed a more vulnerable side tonight (June 11), as she opened up to Diane Sugden (Elizabeth Estensen) about how the death of mate Nadine Butler changed her.
Meena has been on a mission to break up Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) and Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) in recent weeks, as she believes the latter belongs with Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker).
She took great delight in watching the lovers bicker in tonight’s edition of the ITV soap, but when Diane berated her for meddling, the young woman set out to explain herself.
Meena opened up to Diane in the salon, explaining that she has this overwhelming desire to ensure that those around her are happy.
She explained how she wants to be there for everyone, as she wasn’t there for a friend of hers named Nadine.
‘I should’ve talked to her,’ she told Diane, ‘but I didn’t.
‘I tried. But she rejected me, so I backed off and left her to work it through on her own. And she killed herself.
‘And now, when I see someone in pain. Not physical pain, I’ve got used to that as a nurse. Emotional pain. It triggers something in me, that I’m useless and I need to act.’
However, it appears as if Meena wasn’t being honest about the death of her friend, as she was later seen reading through an old news paper clipping, which detailed the actual circumstances of Nadine’s demise.
According to the report, Nadine was ‘found dead in suspicious circumstances’ after ‘inhaling carbon monoxide fumes.’
Did Meena have a part to play?
Emmerdale continues Monday June 14 at 7pm on ITV. Alternatively, all of next week’s episodes will be available to stream as a boxset on the ITV Hub from Monday morning.
