Lucky daytime soap lovers have enjoyed a weekly dose of Elisabeth Dermot Walsh during her 13-year stint as Zara Carmichael on BBC hit series Doctors.
Fans have watched her masterfully take Zara through a number of memorable storylines including being kidnapped, dealing with early menopause, the birth of her son, her on-off relationship with Daniel Granger, and her feud with stepdaughter Izzie Torres.
The talented actress lives a private life away form the cameras, but there’s no doubt she follows in the footsteps of her famous father Dermot Walsh, a screen star of the 1960s.
Elisabeth was able to snag 11 British Soap Award nominations for her work and won the award for Best Female Acting Performance at the 2015 RTS Midlands Awards.
From rival soap star roles and her glam red carpet appearances, let’s take a look at the star’s life away from the cameras…
Rival soap role
We know her best from her role on Doctors but the talented actress has also appeared in medical drama rival Holby City.
Appearing in the BBC One soap the same year she began her role in Doctors, Elisabeth plays the bitter ex-girlfriend of Joseph who shows up on his wedding day drunk and jealous as he gets set to head down the aisle with Faye.
Her character namesake Elizabeth causes a stir in the soap when Joseph discovers she had an affair with his dead brother.
Elisabeth recently celebrated her move to primetime with Doctors, telling Morning Live: “I was speechless after being on the show for so long.
We’re really thrilled. Lots of people who I talk to say I used to watch Doctors, but I don’t have time to watch it, no excuse now!”
Discussing her character Zara, she said: “She’s a piece of work! She divides people. People are sometimes unkind in the streets, but I take that as a compliment!”
“Overall, I think people have really taken the show to their hearts.”
Elisabeth’s Irish dad was a trailblazer in world of showbiz and its clear she inherited some of his amazing talent.
Known for being tall, dark and handsome, Dermot was set for stardom when he became a fixture in British cinema throughout the 1950s and 60s.
He was perhaps best known for portraying King Richard the Lionheart in the 1962 television series Richard the Lionheart but left his mark on dozens of popular TV shows, movies and plays.
A prolific theatre actor, Dermot appeared in George Bernard Shaw's Buoyant Billions at the Prince's Theatre in 1949, as well as Reluctant Heroes and The Mousetrap.
Dermot was married three times and had four children from his three marriages: Sally, Michael, Olivia, and Elisabeth.
He died on June 26, 2002 at age 77 but would no doubt be proud of his daughter’s TV success.
The fiercely private actress keeps her personal life away from the cameras, but she occasionally sneaks fans a glimpse into her glamorous lifestyle when she hits the red carpet.
Elisabeth looked royally radiant in blue when she attended the British Soap Awards back in 2011. The star showed off her gorgeous figure in the A-Line frock that featured a strapless corset and frills on the skirt.
Almost a decade later, the 47-year-old wowed fans at the same event when she walked the red carpet in a chic floor length black gown with a plunging neckline that showcased her ample assets.
The star has received a staggering 11 nominations from the coveted awards ceremony but has never snagged a gong.
She did however snag a Best Female Acting Performance award at the RTS Midlands Awards in 2015.
Doctors airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 1.45pm and the same episode is repeated at 7pm on BBC Two
