Former newsreader Jan Leeming was welcomed onto Good Morning Britain on Tuesday morning and chatted to hosts Adil Ray and Susanna Reid. The star was on the ITV show to join a debate about whether or not it’s selfish to own a dog later on in life. The 79-year-old was joined during the interview by her two pet dogs. However, while she was on the programme, the animal lover also shared her thoughts on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! blasting the show for its use of animals.

Back in 2006, Jan was a contestant in the sixth series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

She took part in several gruesome trials during her time on the show, including an eating trial.

In the challenge, Jan ate a vomit fruit and a witchety grub smoothie but refused to eat a kangaroo’s eye, tongue, anus and reproductive organs.

During her appearance on Tuesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, Jan was asked if she had any advice for this year’s I’m A Celeb contestants.

However, the former newsreader swiftly explained that she doesn’t actually watch the ITV reality show.

She explained: “I have to say I don’t watch it for varying reasons, including the animals.

“But, tips? Just remember that you’re actually stronger than you realise,” she said.

Jan confessed she went on I’m A Celebrity for “purely financial reasons”, but revealed she did learn a lot about herself during her time on the show.

She added: “I’m very glad I did it because it taught me that I had a lot more strength than I thought I had.”

Keen to know more about Jan’s issues with the show, Susanna asked her to clarify why she wasn’t tuning in to watch.

The presenter questioned: “You said you don’t watch because of the animals. Do you object to those diner challenges or do you object to the bugs?”

Jan replied: “I mean I did it in 2006. I’ve always loved animals, I’ve always been very pro animals.

“But, I’m not sure about the bugs and everything else these days,” she explained.

However, Jan revealed the show’s use of animals isn’t the only reason she’s not been tuning in.

“I don’t watch it also because apart from Richard and Arlene Phillips, I don’t watch soaps, I’m not a sports fan, I don’t watch breakfast television, so I don’t know any of the people on it,” she laughed.

There’s a wide range of celebrities taking part in the series this year, including TV and radio presenters, sport stars, a soap actor, musicians, and a choreographer.

The current stars on the show are Richard Madeley, Matty Lee, Louise Minchin, Kadeena Cox, Arlene Phillips, Danny Miller, Frankie Bridge, Naughty Boy, David Ginola, and Snoochie Shy.

Meanwhile, soap stars Adam Woodyatt and Simon Gregson are rumoured to be joining the cast later in the series.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Continues Tuesday at 9:15pm on ITV.
