Meena (played by Paige Sandhu) arrived in the Emmerdale village last year as the sweet and troublesome younger sister of Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker). However, a few months ago it was revealed she had a dark past and this resulted in her killing her first victim on the ITV soap, Leanna Cavanagh (Mimi Slinger). Ever since, she has been planning several other murders, most notably those of her boyfriend David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) and his secret lover, Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins). However, as the 50th-anniversary approaches, it seems bosses could be looking for her reign of terror to come to an end as they take influence from some past storylines.

On October 17, 2022, the weeknight serial drama will celebrate being on air for 50 years, making it the second-longest-running soap on television behind Coronation Street.

For the show’s 40th anniversary, an hour-long live episode was planned and it featured many dramatic moments.

One of the most shocking and chilling was when long-running character Carl King (Tom Lister) was murdered after discovering Cameron Murray (Dominic Power) was having an affair with Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) behind girlfriend Debbie Dingle’s (Charley Webb) back.

This exposed the villain’s true colours and he subsequently went on to kill Gennie Walker (Sian Reese-Williams) and held villager’s in The Woolpack hostage.

The anniversary episode was the catalyst for a deadly chain of events and it could be the same for Meena in the 50th-anniversary special.

Unlike Cameron, Meena has already killed a fair few people, both during her time in the village and before she arrived.

This would mean a beloved character discovering she is a serial killer during the 50th-anniversary episode would have the opposite effect.

It would be the end of her reign of terror in the Dales and could see her meet her maker as she gets her comeuppance.

At the time the landmark instalment airs, it will have been exactly two years since Manpreet’s sister joined the show.

Providing a full-circle moment for the serial killer, her exit would spark new storylines for those who have been subjected to her cruel games.

Have some great ideas up our sleeves

Kate Brooks

Speaking with the press, including Express.co.uk, producer Kate Brooks hinted at the plans in place to celebrate the landmark occasion.

Asked if there were any plans in motion, she replied: “Yes, in short! We are already in the throes of big discussions for Emmerdale’s big birthday bash.

“We do have some great ideas up our sleeves already. As much as I’d like to whet everybody’s appetites a bit more on this matter, I can’t really say anything else.

“But needless to say, it’ll be a fitting and unforgettable tribute to a show reaching this wonderful milestone and we will definitely be celebrating Emmerdale in all its glory.”

It’s not been confirmed when Meena’s reign of terror will come to an end but the 50th anniversary would mirror serial killer Cameron’s story perfectly.

It’s been quite a challenge for the actress who plays Meena, Paige, to take on the persona of a serial killer.

However, she has been doing her research and speaking to the press, including Express.co.uk, she said: “Now that I really know her well and I’ve been playing her for over a year, I find it a lot easier to get into character than before.

“But what I usually do before every scene that I’m in [is go back to] my backstory. This hasn’t been put in scripts but it’s my backstory, Meena has killed twice before she comes to Emmerdale.

“What I do is I replay one of the murders that she commits and I change my body language, I stand like her, I clear my head of any thoughts.

“Just imagine killing that person and I just feel like her. That’s what I do,” the soap star explained on how she embodies the role.

In upcoming episodes, it seems the villain is set to kill again during the soap’s big stunt week as she and some other villagers participate in survival week.

Taking place across various locations, the instalments will begin with the residents of Emmerdale enjoying the funner side of the challenges.

Unfortunately, these will take a deadly turn as an incident in icy rapids leaves lives hanging in the balance, including David’s, Victoria’s, Mapreet’s and Charles Anderson’s (Kevin Mathurin).

Meena will watch from the sidelines as her boyfriend and his secret lover try to save one another before she intervenes with a deadly plan in mind.

The action won’t stop there as someone will spot her carrying out her deadly deed and she will be in quick pursuit.

But who will make it out the week alive?

Discussing being at the centre of the drama with her character, Paige said: “I absolutely love it. It has been my favourite time on Emmerdale so far and I think that has been the general consensus with all the cast and crew.

“We have all loved it. We finished filming on Monday and everybody was just really sad to be returning to normal filming as it’s been the most special, incredible, fun, amazing time ever.

“Everyone has brought their A-game and we have all just been really grateful to be a part of it. I am looking forward to seeing it.

“I don’t generally like to watch myself but because the stunts are so incredible and we’ve had all the fancy camera equipment I think it is hopefully going to be epic Emmerdale to see.

“So I will definitely watch it. From the clips I’ve seen so far, it’s going to be cool and exciting.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm, with an extra episode airing Thursdays at 8pm on ITV.
